Telemedicine and the impact on fellowship training?
Wondering what other onc clinics are doing with regards to telemedicine and fellowship training. Do you have a three way call/video with the fellow, attending, and patient ? This makes the most sense practically but seems like it would render the fellow with more of a “shadowing” role. Do you have the fellow call patient first, staff with attending, and then call patient back with plan? This fits the more traditional role but is inefficient. Do fellows/attendings typically work from home or... Telemedicine and the impact on fellowship training? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Interviews Outside of CA
Hello everyone, IMG who participated in the match last year. Thought I had a very good chance as I had plenty of research (13 publications), good LORs, step scores were well above average, and I like to think I come across as a well likable person. I always knew that being an IMG was something I would be immediately judged for when it came to interviews. I did not think that the fact that I am from and did my residency in California, it would affect me being offered for interviews. In... Interviews Outside of CA (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Help with HemeOnc fellowship and beyond?
I'm currently caught between going directly to primary care or pursue a HemeOnc fellowship after residency. I am not opposed to either but leaning toward fellowship because I find myself a bit interested in academics. However, another three years of training sounds a bit daunting to me, for I will be well into my thirties when I'm finished. So I wanted to find out more information to help me decide. Can anyone tell me what the typical day of a HemeOnc fellowship is like? Do you have better... Help with HemeOnc fellowship and beyond? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

help me decide: PCP vs heme/onc
Hi everybody, I am a current PGY2 and am struggling between solid oncology vs primary care. Inpatient medicine burns me out due to heavy page burden and having to direct my attention to many different things at once. I feel more relaxed when I can devote myself to one thing at a time. Thus, hospitalist work is out of the question for me. I need help figuring out what is the best fit for me. I want a job where I can feel fulfilled and not burnt out. I don't care about salary/ prestige. I... help me decide: PCP vs heme/onc (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Just graduated with a Bachelor's, plan to transition to Nursing?
I just graduated in December with a Bachelors in Biomedical Laboratory Science. I am currently a month and a half into a 6 month Medical Lab Science "internship" to train, with the outcome being taking the ACLS board exam at the end of the internship (currently rotating through the medical lab: chemistry, hematology, microbio, and blood bank being the major sections.) My cGPA at completion of undergrad was 3.22, I have yet to calculate my sGPA but it's going to be lower than my core (but... Just graduated with a Bachelor's, plan to transition to Nursing? How to best make use of research time if I am not interested in an academic career?
Hello, I am noticing a lot of programs on average have 18 months of clinical time and then 18 months of research time. I am interested in private practice but would like to go to a university program for exposure. How should I make use of the research time to best help me with my career and/or marketability for private practice jobs? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dumb Consults Thread
I thought I could handle anything with fellowship, but I'm finding that the dumb consults on hematology are killing me. Intern: "Patient is here with sepsis, just got chemo 2 days ago. We want you on board. We don't have any question and he's rock stable." Attending: "How do I use a DOAC, again?" -- Sure let me uptodate that for you. Surgeon: "This patient must have a bleeding disorder! I never saw bleeding like this before." [2 hours later, arterial bleed is localized] I know... ASH and ASCO National Meetings - Useful?
For hem Onc attendings in clinical practice Do you find going to the big national meetings ASH and ASCO helpful for your practice, or do you go to smaller break off meetings? I am finding them so unwieldy that I’m not sure it wouldn’t be time better spent at a best of course or even a board review course . (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Minor hem/onc fellowships
Hello, I am a second year IM resident at a community hospital with strong interest in hem onc. I am applying next yr to fellowship but I wanted also to be mindful of other routes that might help me to secure hem onc if i am unable to match. I am aware that for ex GI there are small 1 yr fellowships at big places that polish your CV for the actual GI fellowship like advanced hepatology, motility, etc. I am not ware of any for hem onc. Hem/onc fellow, how to decide on career path
Hi, i’m about to finish 1st year hem/onc fellowship in a mid-tier academic program. Also have a PhD in cancer biology with publications (in colon cancer). No visa issue. I’m having a hard time in choosing my career path. The things that I value most is lifestyle and pay. I have 2 young children to support. So far, I know I like treating solid tumors, but do not have a specific disease that dominate my interests. Our program is clinically heavy in 1st year, so far I did not do any meaning...
