How to boost my application for heme/onc next year
Hello, I have just started PGY2 and will be applying for fellowship at this time next year. Can anyone give me advice on what I should be doing this year to boost my application?
- US allopathic grad
- 230 step 1, 220 step 2, haven't taken step 3 yet
- Currently at mid-tier academic university medicine program
- Home program has a well-regarded NCI-designated cancer center
- 2 first-authored case reports during residency so far
- 5 co-authored publications -some in heme/onc, some not-...

University of Puerto Rico - Program strength?
It's my hometown program. It seems like they are too focused in mal heme and BMT (never heard a discussion of benign heme among the fellows). Solids seems like it's too outpatient and weak. Is this the norm with heme/onc programs? Are solids managed by their respective subspecialties (GI, Uro, OB/GYN)? I want PP and a solid well-rounded education. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

GME funding for 3 years?
Hey all. For heme-onc fellowship that is 18 months clinical / 18 months research, is this fully GME funded for all three years? Or does your salary switch during research time?

De-Compensation
Hello everyone,
Any reasoning behind the downtrend of Oncology compensations? I have been hearing/reading that future for compensation for Oncology will be lower than that of a hospitalist in not too long. It is strange that with all the growth of this specialty it's being financially restricted. Is it all because the specialty is being "bought" by hospitals and hence pharma which would naturally reduce the salary to a minimum.

Clinical hours for CLS rotation
So, right now I am majoring in clinical laboratory sciences. The program requires clinical rotations in a laboratory setting. Would this experience count as some type of clinical experience for medical school? I keep hearing conflicting answers from pre-med counselors, and the internet. Confused on Title for Clinical Research
Hi,
I "interviewed" with a doctor that is a lecturer, clinical researcher, and hematologist/oncologist. He talked to be briefly (causally) and told me to talk to the research coordinator more. They said they were glad to take me in because they could use some help around the office and clinic.
