Inflation reduction act and oncology reimbursement
IRA recently passed. Basically it will allow government to negotiate drug prices with pharma companies. Specifically, it'll be 20 chemo drugs by 2029 that gov will negotiate pricing on. They mentioned mostly oral chemo such as palbociclib and ibrutinib/etc. One article I read on ASCO projects almost 50% decline in drug prices. Can we discuss how this IRA will affect private practice onc or community hospital onc reimbursement? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Kaiser Heme/Onc
Can anyone speak to their experiences in Kaiser Heme/Onc? I am in the job search process and interviewing there. While people rave about the benefits, I want to enjoy my life too and don't want to sacrifice QOL now just for the sake of benefits at 65 - so I wanted to make sure physicians' daily experiences there are positive too (my current alternative is academia where I know QOL will be better, but lower compensation). The pay in the norcal groups is 385k/year, but the # of patients per... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Does staying in academic heme/onc close doors to community role later?
I am a double-boarding third year fellow at a very academically oriented fellowship program. I have a compelling job offer to stay at my home institution in a pretty subspecialized solid tumor oncology role (i.e., not just one of breast/GI/GU/lung, but my focus will be on a subset of one of these disease groups). I will probably accept because it's a great personal fit and I find the disease group interesting. The thing is, I am still not really sure that academic heme/onc is what I want to... Question Bank/Study Materials for Boards
Hey everyone, third year heading into the new year and wanted to do some more "board specific" studying now that my clinic/research load is much lighter. From my understanding, the HOQ question bank is definitely king and seems great from what I've done so far. I know there are a few others that some have used and was wondering if anyone felt other question banks/courses/etc were very useful. Any tips from those who recently took both heme and onc board would be greatly appreciated! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Inpatient Opportunities
Hi everyone, Current IM resident interested in potentially going on to heme/onc fellowship. I know that onc is by and large an outpatient specialty, but that in academic settings where there are consult/primary onc/BMT/dedicated malignant heme services, you can end up having inpatient service responsibilities as part of your career. Maybe this will change in time but I find the prospect of having both inpatient/outpatient responsibilities appealing (currently at a very inpatient/critical... Is this a decent offer?
I have tentatively accepted an offer pending confirmation of an offer for my wife who is also a physician. However I noticed that the offer I was given seems to be lower than what is being offered at other places in the vicinity in a similar practice setting. 2 year guarantee of 435K if I hit 4100 wRVU can switch to productivity which is:base 400, wRVU threshold 4100 73 a wRVU. City in the PNW. Im not sure how busy I can get at the practice since its been dwindling over the past few years... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Mid-semester burn out tips?
I have successfully completed two blocks of MS1, but I feel like I have run out of steam starting my Hematology and Oncology block. I can watch my lectures, but I have very low motivation for individual review. Any tips for burn out I haven't tried? Current habits -Eating healthy (avoiding fast food and low, controlled sugar indulgence) -Physical separation of sleep/fun areas from study area -Not working during meals -regular sleep schedule -Therapy Starting/restarting -Exercise (walks... Question about red flags, research etc
M2 at a mid-tier MD program. I took a medical leave of absence last year and failed/successfully remediated first block of M1. I'm back, though, and honored my first block back. I guess my question for y'all is if this is something I can come back from. I'm pretty set on IM, and definitely want to pursue a fellowship, ideally in H/O. Second question is maybe a little more straightforward but I haven't really found a conclusive answer: how important is med school research for fellowship... Thinking about quitting fellowship
Hey guys, Curious if anyone else has felt this way and/or if anyone has any advice on this matter. I'm currently a 2nd year at a very clinically and academically rigorous program and recently have been feeling like the emotional weight of the job and the myriad demands (inbox messages, long notes, keeping up with literature, FMLA paperwork, patient calls, peer to peers, prior auth approvals, etc.) are outweighing the excitement that I once felt for it. I'm starting to see myself sustaining... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Jobs in Heme Malignancies
Hi everyone, currently a fellow at a more academic focused program and really liking malignant heme. Was hoping to get some insight on what kind of jobs are available for this disease group. I'm more familiar with large academic institutions, you can be on a research track vs more clinical track - but the salaries are potentially 200-300 depending on location but benefit is likely more specialization. I like research but would be happy with a more clinically focused career. Was wondering if... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Study partner for heme/onc boards
Hello, I am currently in third year of Heme Onc fellowship and will be taking hemeonc boards in nov 2022 looking for a study partner to do questions and go over board review material (who is interested in shared accountability to sit and read on a daily basis). An hour a day over Skype doing questions or discussing prefixed topics would be time well spent! If anyone is interested please reach out ! Thanks (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Am I wasting my time pursuing a HO fellowship?
Hi y’all, I need someone to lay it to me straight. I am a USMD current PGY1 at a community hospital interested in community/private-practice heme onc. I went to a mid-tier med school. My current program has good ties to local university programs including my med school but it has no in-house HO fellowship. I know the biggest factors in landing a spot are the interview, LORs, word of mouth and research. However, I’ve been reading a lot about how a lot of programs screen out applications... Hematology / Oncology RVU comp
Wanted to get a general feel of the numbers. I am getting reimbursed at $84 per RVU. Location is in non-metro part of California. Compensation is RVU based only, i.e. there is no base salary. I get $84 for all the RVUs. I total between 7000 and 11000 RVUs in a year depending on various factors. Recently, I heard from another colleague in one of the top 2 CA metros that they are reimbursing at $105. I was taken aback since I assumed metros will pay less than non-metros. I want to ensure...
