Estrogen receptor beta expression and role in cancers
J Steroid Biochem Mol Biol. 2024 Apr 22:106526. doi: 10.1016/j.jsbmb.2024.106526. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEstrogen drives the growth of some cancers, such as breast cancer, via estrogen receptor alpha (ERβ). Estrogen also activates ERβ, but whether ERβ is expressed and has a role in different cancers is debated. The use of nonspecific antibodies has contributed to the confusion, and this review delves into ERβ's controversial role in cancer and focuses on tumor expression that can be supported by non-antibody-dependent assays. We discuss its expression at the transcript level and focus on its potential role in ly...

FTO attenuates the cytotoxicity of cisplatin in KGN granulosa cell-like tumour cells by regulating the Hippo/YAP1 signalling pathway
In this study, we found that after cisplatin treatment, the apoptosis of granulosa cells increased in a concentration-dependent manner, accompanied by the downregulation of FTO and YAP1. Furthermore, overexpression of FTO decreased cisplatin-induced granulosa cell apoptosis, inhibited the Hippo/YAP kinase cascade-induced phosphorylation of YAP1, and promoted the entry of YAP1 into the nucleus. The downstream targets of YAP1 (CTGF, CYR61, and ANKRD1) were also increased. Si-RNA-mediated downregulation of FTO promoted cisplatin-induced granulosa cell apoptosis, activated the Hippo/YAP kinase cascade, and inhibited the YAP1 e...

Metformin mitigates cisplatin-induced ovarian damage through inhibiting the pyroptosis of granulosa cells via ROS/TXNIP/NLRP3 signaling pathway
Aging (Albany NY). 2024 Mar 14;16. doi: 10.18632/aging.205659. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCisplatin, a vital chemotherapy drug for solid malignant tumors, can detrimentally affect ovarian health and fertility in premenopausal patients with cancer. Currently, effective strategies to mitigate cisplatin-induced ovarian damage remain limited. Several studies have highlighted the potential of metformin as an anticancer agent with anti-aging properties and other health benefits. Hence, the present study established an animal model to investigate the impact of metformin on cisplatin-induced ovarian damage, elucidating its mech...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1140: Follicle-Stimulating Hormone Receptor Expression and Its Potential Application for Theranostics in Subtypes of Ovarian Tumors: A Systematic Review
P. Zweemer Ovarian cancer mortality rates have not decreased significantly in the past years. As most women are still diagnosed in an advanced stage, there is a need for new treatment strategies for recurrent disease. A potentially new developing targeted approach, theranostics, combines diagnostics and treatment using radiopharmaceuticals. Through target receptors, imaging and treatment of malignant tissue can be achieved. For ovarian malignancy, the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) receptor may serve as a possible target since expression appears to be limited to ovarian cells. In this systematic review, we aim to ...
