Safe to do summer research at NYU Grossman/Langone in Manhattan midtown??
My sister is a MS1 in one of state medical schools. She has extensive research experience at NCI and MD Anderson and has 8 publications. But she is only doing MD. She was accepted to two extramural summer research programs but NIH intramural summer research was cancelled due to SARS-CoV-2 but NIH extramural grant funded NYU Langone summer research was not cancelled. However, she is Asian and is afraid of current violence happening in NYC. She is thinking about forgoing this opportunity... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

University of Vermont (UVM Connecticut Campus) vs. Medical College of Georgia (MCG Augusta Campus)
Hi everyone! Thank you for your time in reading my post. I'm OOS for both of these medical schools and could use some wisdom in helping decide on a school. Both schools would be very far from family so there isn't a family support network advantage either way. I haven't gotten my financial aid packages from either school yet, so I'm estimating each school's cost of attendance based on only loans (hoping for grants/scholarships but trying to be realistic here). To give some context on my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

IMG/FMG to DPM, what schools offer advanced standing besides Western?
A relative is a foreign medical graduate who passed the STEPs, but has not been able to obtain a residency spot. Apparently Western University of Health Sciences grants advanced standing to international medical graduates, provided certain conditions are met. Advanced Standing | Prospective Students prospective.westernu.edu Has anybody heard of this? Are there similar programs at other podiatry schools? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Leveraging aid with no scholarship, but multiple As
Is it possible to leverage multiple As into a scholarship/grant at my top choice school, despite having no scholarship offer from them or any other school yet (still waiting on a couple financial aid packages)? I currently have 5 MD A's, all at mid-tier schools ranked in the 45-65 region. There are small differences in COA between them, but my top choice is the cheapest one. Would it be feasible to get them to offer aid just by leveraging other slightly higher-ranked but still mid-tier As... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Any Recommended Resources for Grant Writing?
What are some readings, guides, or resources for current dual-degree students/residents in grant writing you would recommend? I'm a current DPM-PhD student and am looking into some small training research grants to help carry me throughout residency. Looking forward to any help. Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Medical students to OMFS
What programs allow medical students to apply for OMFS programs? I know it’s a dental specialty but on previous posts, it looks like its been done before in the past. Currently, I know some programs grant a MD degree during their training. With that said, is there a possibility that a program could grant a DDS/DMD during the training program. Thanks! Waitlisted, now what?
Hi SDN, please advise. ORM female, Colorado native, feeling like I'm hitting rock-bottom. I know that only about 40% of applicants get accepted in any given year, but still, I feel horrible and overwhelmed. I graduated from a top 10 undergrad in fall 2019. Hefty shadowing, clinical volunteering, non-clinical volunteering, and leadership experiences. I'm most proud of my research experiences (3 long-term projects, 2 publications in Nature and Pediatric Diabetes, 2 coveted research grants... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Clinical Neuropsych Must-Have Texts?
Hi everyone, I have some leftover grant funds this FY that I need to spend or lose, so I am wondering what are the neuropsych folks' top recommendations for textbooks/must have texts? I already have the compendium (a very generous gift from my undergrad mentor when I got into grad school), so I am looking for similar reference books or really anything you think would be an asset to take with me to internship in about 1.5 years (hopefully, haha!). Thanks in advance! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

My friend got a half tuition need-base grant. How common is that?
A friend of mine just got a 25k need-base grant for med school. I have always thought that unlike ungrad schools, med schools don't provide much financial assistance in the term of grants. Does this have to do with his school really wanting him, or was it purely based on his financial situation? Sign me up for med school that gives 1/2 tuition in aid lol. Should I take this scholarship?
Hello. I am going to graduate from college this May, Spring 2021. After that, I will have to take a few pre-requisites before I sit for the MCAT in Spring 2022. This is because I only got interested in medicine after almost dying from a liver illness halfway through college. Went on medical leave, starting self-studying sciences, and now here we are. My question is this: I am competing for a travel grant. The grant is awarded to 40 students in the US each year. It allows you to complete a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How much did your school get in Covid relief funding?
Search to find how much funding your college or university will receive in the new round of COVID-19 funding This searchable database shows how much public, private nonprofit and for-profit institutions are set to receive, as well as how much of that money must go to financial aid grants for students. www.insidehighered.com This had relevance to MDs too, but since they have undergrads etc, it’s kind of harder to see how much they’re getting screwed compared to us. Is this enough Research?
By the time of applying, I will have completed a 140 hr individually funded research project and done a local undergraduate poster presentation in biology. I will have also racked up 160 hrs starting my biomedical research project with the medical school on my campus. For a total of about 300 hrs when I apply. The summer of applying I will be starting my intense 3-semester biomedical project -- working on a final thesis, 5-6 presentations on my work, fully funded through individual grants I... HPSP for MSTP/MD-PhD
Hello, I contacted a Navy recruiter about the HPSP scholarship for MSTP and MD-PhD applicants. She confirmed that the Navy will sponsor such a scholarship, paying only for tuition and fees corresponding to the medical school phases of the program (if they are not already paid for by the NIH T32 MSTP grant). To be clear, I fully understand the time commitments and sacrifices required of the HPSP and future service, and I look forward to discussing these options with my directors, advisors... Need help making a decision!
So I have been accepted to Ross, SGU and AUC along with some 1 & 2 year master programs with direct admission to their medical program upon achieving certain requirements. However I’ve been merp/pre medical school in all the Caribbean schools. Also I have already completed a master’s degree with a 3.94 about a year ago tho. For each Caribbean school’s, I have been awarded about 90k in grant. Yes I am already aware of the Caribbean school horror story so no need to bombard this thread with... What is the job market like for early career physician scientists?
It seems that for most specialities, clinicians are in high demands, whereas in the basic biomedical sciences, it's nearly impossible now to find a tenure track academic job. What is currently the likelihood of finding an assistant professor position with ~50-80% protected research time for someone who recently completed residency+postdoc/fellowship? Do you have to bring with you some kind of early career grant? Do you foresee things changing in the upcoming years because of covid? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
