Northwestern vs Wisconsin
Hey all, I’m down to my top two choices and would really appreciate some input as I’ve been back and forth on this one... Northwestern Pros: -Slightly more prestigious -Geared more towards specialization/research (Interested in Ortho) -35K Grant/Yr (~220K COA) -Favorite Interview, awesome students/faculty -Change in scenery Cons: -Never lived in a big city, so not sure how I would like Chicago -Family and SO all live in WI -Housing options are very expensive Wisconsin... Activity Section Question
Hi everyone, Goldwater Scholarships were announced today and I was awarded one. I was wondering if this deserved its own section in activities when I apply or if it should be grouped in with the other scholarships/grants. Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Depressing NP-related nonsense
I got a random E-mail from a large public non-profit saying they want a staff psychiatrist part/full time. The "medical director" is an NP, and the numbers she quoted are 50% below market. I suspect the facility has few MDs, and they get block grants from Medicaid. It's just a downward drift into a toilet hole. Incidentally, I had had several psychosis patients managed by a different but similar Medicaid chain and my unofficial sampling wasn't great. I suspect if you tabulate some score of... Delayed Applicant - What should I focus on?
I graduated in 2013 from NYU with good grades (3.83 GPA, 3.95 sGPA). Family and finance stuff got in the way, so I ended up not applying and ended worked in higher ed grants management. Med school was still the goal, so I ended up picking up 200 hours in clinical volunteering and a MPA in healthcare policy and management with 3.93 GPA. I assisted with some healthcare system research, not listed as an author but mentioned as an acknowledgement (which is fine considering how much work i did)... FMGs in academic medicine?
Is it possible for a foreign medical graduate today become a physician scientist or enter into academic medicine. Given the fact that a lot of NIH grants are given to US citizens only, is it possible for foreign medical graduates to get enough funding to enter academia?? Say if a fmg lands into a good oncology fellowship, will they need additional training in a research fellowship of something to land a job in academia, as a physician who performs lab /translational research in university ?? Thoughts on job decision
I am debating three postdoc / job options. Would appreciate any thoughts. 1. A Tenure-track position in the city that is my goal love to live in / would work very well for my family, but that is an R2 school and not as research focused as I would like 2. A postdoc on someone else’s grant that is super productive, known for mentoring well, and the research fit is perfect 3. A T32 at a prestigious institution, but with a mentor who is not the perfect fit and a past trainee advised me to... Thoughts on job decision (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How likely is it to qualify for need based aid/grants?
I was recently accepted into one of my absolute top choices! It does however come with a hefty price tag. I was wondering how likely it would be to receive need based aid? Is it school specific? Family/Parental income is around 50k. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Disadvantage for filling out FAFSA in 2020?
Now that applicants can start filling out the FAFSA earlier starting in October, is there any disadvantage in filling out the FAFSA sometime in January or even February? I think I remember reading somewhere that for schools that provide scholarships, filling it out later could mean not a lower chance of receiving the grant because they already gave it to other applicants. But in the case where the school releases financial aid decisions in lets say March, would this be the case as well... Disadvantage for filling out FAFSA in 2020? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
