Should I take student loans out or accept my parents offer to loan me money for tuition?
Hey everyone. Im an incoming M1 I was planning on taking student loans out but my parents graciously offered to loan me money for tuition interest free for medical school. I have enough saved up for living expenses. Should I accept my parents offer? I was also curious if by accepting my parents offer to loan me money, will I have a smaller chance at receiving scholarships and grants? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do private schools offer more financial aid?
Was recently accepted!! Woohooo!! But it’s an out of state private school and almost $40,000 more in tuition than instate public programs. I’ve heard that private schools have more private funding etc. so that they are able to give out more scholarships/grants to students. Has anyone who’s been accepted to a private school given any money to attend? Or should I fully expect to have to pay using student loans? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MD (almost guaranteed spot at UMASS the following year) or start right away at a decent DO
Hi all! I'm currently trying to make a decision and would like some input. OK so UMASS has basically accepted me into post-bacc program which is one year long. This program grants me conditional acceptance to their medical school the following year (given I pass the course work). The acceptance rate on the post-bacc varies with some years having 100% acceptance rate (4 out of 4 students) and with other years having a 75% (3 out of 4 students) acceptance rate. I would basically be taking... MD (almost guaranteed spot at UMASS the following year) or start right away at a decent DO (Source: Student Doctor Network)

516, 3.99 GPA; what schools should I apply to?
Hi all, I’m a caucasian male from BYU in Utah. I have a 516 and 3.99 GPA. I have good leadership experiences. I have 800+ hours working as a CNA at a hospital. I have volunteered the last three years as a CNA at a volunteer clinic for those under the poverty line (totaling 150 hours). I have also volunteered at the hospital ER with transporting patients (150 hours or so). I have been doing mentored research for the last two years and recently won a grant for one of my projects. I’m... 516, 3.99 GPA; what schools should I apply to? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Presented a poster but is it research?
So, I worked for almost 2 years on an NIH grant trying to design a simulation to better understand the folding mechanics of an enzyme/substrate interface. I presented our findings at my school symposium and abstract was accepted at NCUR (didn’t go because of limited travel funds). My job was building the simulation, pressing go, and analyzing the data (we had some programs for it) to generate the simulation. Is in-silico research worthy of being labeled as ‘research’? If not, can I still... Presented a poster but is it research? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Does MOCA Minutes = CMEs for state licensing?
Does anyone know how (if at all) to get CMEs for the MOCA minute questions we do? Do they even grant CMEs for those? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pain Boards
Sorry if this has been addressed recently, but I didn't see anything recent. Where would one find these supposed ASRA pain exam questions I've seen discussed in the past? Is that still what people would recommend? If not, what resource(s) would you use to study for it? Thanks. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PhD to MD. Reapplicant. Feeling discouraged.
I am finishing the fourth year of my PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I applied to medical school for several reasons, including missing having the patient interactions, directly impacting patients' lives, generally loving the field of medicine, not wanting the instability of academic life (relying on grants for funding), feeling burnt out by the mindset of academia (only getting high impact publications if you have big PIs on your manuscripts, etc.), and so on. Looking back, I do... PhD to MD. Reapplicant. Feeling discouraged. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What are your best tips for thriving in grad school?
I apologize if we covered this recently, but I thought today was as good a day as any to share the nuggets of wisdom we've learned in graduate school. Let's share the love! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'll start: Try to put your perfectionism on the shelf. I've seen way too many peers (and me!) overcome by fears about "not doing their best," resulting in them not publishing, not applying for grants, or not taking on... Papers, Preliminary Data, and NIH Grants Vs. Doing research that is relevant to your future field
Hello, I am a DMD/PhD student interested in becoming an oral surgeon scientist. I have been working in a basic science laboratory full-time for a year before starting my combined program and then part-time for another year during my first year. Now I have multiple abstracts, co-author papers and a first author publication. Since my current mentor and I collaborate very well, I have been thinking about continue working with my current research mentor starting my first year PhD instead of... Scheduling NAPLEX before graduation? (CA)
I already sent in all my application materials, except for my official transcripts (obviously, because I graduate at the end of May). On NABP, my application status still says “eligibility requested.” I know CA BOP won’t grant me eligibility to take the NAPLEX until they receive my transcripts..but I’m wondering how some other people have already scheduled their exams??? Even if their transcripts haven’t been sent yet? Am I missing something here? Please share some insight, thank you in advane (Source: Student Doctor Network)
