Treatment methods for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia in England: A cost-effectiveness analysis
CONCLUSIONS: LLETZ is the most cost-effective treatment for both younger and older women. However, for older women, more radical excision with laser conisation could also be considered if the NHS is willing to spend more than £31,500 to avert one CIN2+ recurrence.PMID:38659133 | DOI:10.1111/1471-0528.17829 (Source: BJOG : An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology)

Molecular epidemiology of HIV among people who inject drugs after the HIV-outbreak in Athens, Greece: Evidence for a 'slow burn' outbreak
CONCLUSIONS: The substantial proportion of clustered infections (93.5%) during 2016-2019 implies a persistent 'slow burn' HIV outbreak among PWID in Athens, suggesting that the outbreak was not successfully eliminated. The consistently high proportion of clustered sequences since the onset of the outbreak suggests the persistence of ongoing HIV-1 transmission attributed to injection practices. Our findings underscore the importance of targeted interventions among PWID, considering the ongoing transmission rate and prolonged time from infection to diagnosis.PMID:38663466 | DOI:10.1016/j.meegid.2024.105597 (Source: Infection...

The association between neighborhood deprivation and DNA methylation in an autopsy cohort
Aging (Albany NY). 2024 Apr 24;16. doi: 10.18632/aging.205764. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrevious research has found that living in a disadvantaged neighborhood is associated with poor health outcomes. Living in disadvantaged neighborhoods may alter inflammation and immune response in the body, which could be reflected in epigenetic mechanisms such as DNA methylation (DNAm). We used robust linear regression models to conduct an epigenome-wide association study examining the association between neighborhood deprivation (Area Deprivation Index; ADI), and DNAm in brain tissue from 159 donors enrolled in the Emory Goizueta...

Comparison of maternal venous blood metabolomics collected as dried blood spots, dried blood microsamplers, and plasma for integrative environmental health research
Environ Int. 2024 Apr 16;187:108663. doi: 10.1016/j.envint.2024.108663. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUse of capillary blood devices for exposome research can deepen our understanding of the intricate relationship between environment and health, and open up new avenues for preventive and personalized medicine, particularly for vulnerable populations. While the potential of these whole blood devices to accurately measure chemicals and metabolites has been demonstrated, how untargeted metabolomics data from these samplers can be integrated with previous and ongoing environmental health studies that have used conventional blo...

The perception and passage of time during public speaking
Acta Psychol (Amst). 2024 Apr 22;246:104268. doi: 10.1016/j.actpsy.2024.104268. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSeveral studies have shown that anxious individuals experience a slower passage of time under threat conditioning. Anxiety-evoking situations have also been proposed to elevate arousal levels, which, in turn, alter one's time percept. However, the effect of social stressors on time perception remains significantly neglected. The current research aimed to investigate the impact of anxiety levels on time estimation and passage of time judgments during public speaking in healthy adults. Participants were recruited fro...
