The neurological decline and psychological factors caused by coronavirus disease 2019 may be predictors of erectile dysfunction
Conclusion:Patients with neurological damage or psychiatric symptoms are more likely to have erectile dysfunction, suggesting that the 2019 novel coronavirus may affect erectile function by damaging nerves. This provides a new insight into the mechanism of erectile dysfunction (Source: Andrology)

The association between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels and erectile dysfunction: a two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis
The objective of this work was to employ Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to ascertain the potential causal relationship between serum 25(OH)D levels and ED. We conducted a two-sample MR analysis utilizing data from publicly available genome-wide association studies (GWASs). The primary analysis method for the MR analysis was the inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method, supplemented by the MR-Egger and weighted median methods. In addition, we evaluated heterogeneity with Cochran's Q test, assessed pleiotropy using the MR-Egger intercept test, and performed a leave-one-out analysis to identify single-nucleotide polymorp...

Alpha-blockers: the magic pill for endourology —The great delusion
ConclusionsAlpha-blockers seem to be a panacea, being used to treat a wide variety of non-urological diseases and conditions. Urological applications include erectile dysfunction to benign prostatic hyperplasia, from incontinence to urinary retention, or even to facilitate urinary stone passage along the urinary tract. Due to its versatility, alpha-blockers appear to be the Swiss army knife of urological medications. However, the efficacy of alpha-blockers for MET, pain management, or facilitating upper tract access is very disappointing, bringing no, or in some instances, only marginal benefits. Their treatment results ar...

Functional and oncologic outcomes of prostate capsule-sparing radical cystectomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Urol Oncol. 2024 Feb 27:S1078-1439(24)00009-7. doi: 10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.01.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRadical cystectomy (RC) is the gold standard treatment for patients with organ-confined bladder cancer. However, despite the success of this treatment, many men who undergo orthotopic neobladder substitution develop significant erectile dysfunction and urinary symptoms, including daytime and nighttime urinary incontinence. Prostate-capsule-sparing radical cystectomy (PCS-RC) with orthotopic neobladder (ONB) has been described in the literature as a surgical technique to improve functional outcomes in appropriate...

Outcomes after chronic isolated epididymal pain: A retrospective study
CONCLUSIONS: Chronic epididymal pain is a condition with limited data surrounding its management. Prior to referral, a large proportion of patients did not undergo any conservative treatment, and of those that did, there was limited response. For those who underwent surgical intervention, all were pain-free on followup, except three patients who underwent epididymectomy.PMID:38381926 | DOI:10.5489/cuaj.8701 (Source: Canadian Urological Association Journal)
