Hellpits- absolute worst programs in radiation oncology
Pits of Hell: with match 2023 round the corner, we should revisit the absolute worst programs in radiation oncology. Grads should not expect employment. There is just no legitimate reason for a us md to apply. Worst of the worst. Us MDs should not attend under any circumstances: West Virgina, Arkansas, Mississippi, MCSC, Tennessee, Baylor Scott and White, Dartmouth, Columbia, SUNY downstate, SUNY upstate, Brooklynn Methodist, Baylor, Stony Brook, Kentucky, Louisville Garbage: Indiana... Huge mistake on AMCAS Research experience reporting
I just realized I put 14600 hours for my research employment in my activities section. Not sure why I submitted it thinking that was reasonable, turns out it is only 3K+ hours. This has also wrongly inflated the total research experience hours that I filled out. I submitted that over a month ago and have already gotten all my secondaries and submitted a bunch too. I plan on sending an update to admissions with the revised hours for all schools, but I'd like to hear from any mstp adcoms... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is the "partnership track" dead?
I hope it isn't true but over the last few years, it seems most partnership tracks are highly flawed, unfair, and eventually lead to nowhere. The outcome is arguably as bad or worse than private equity employment with many tracks leading to that anyway with no recourse. In ophthalmology, what makes a "fair" partnership track? Should the salary be "market rate" employment or is it justifiably lower since the associate is paying "sweat equity"? Isn't that what good will pays for? "Is it... CAP board of gov candidates
Wow! The CAP board of governors candidates don’t inspire confidence, at least on paper. Smitty Collum- Labcorp mid America medical director. I assume the private hospital practice he was with for 25 years prior to his LC employment was bought out. Doc Debarca- six jobs at different places listed since fellowship completed in 2006. ( 6 places in 16 years!). Bobbie Pruitt- Mayo academic Jim Zhai- Mayo academic. They all think we need more paths.🤣 Y’all enjoy the election.🫣 (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Employment benefits - written in contract?
Hi I am reviewing a physician employment contract from a large group and they don’t mention medical insurance as a benefit in the contract. They have a brochure with multiple options from a national carrier. Is this something I need to be concerned about? It seems strange not to include it as a benefit in writing. How long did it take to build your practice/patient base and what was your lifestyle like during?
My understanding is that for a lot of new attending surgeons, lifestyle can be similar or worse than residency for at least the first few years while building up your practice. I've also heard that it's common for many groups/places to make new attendings take heavy call loads until they are more established and that, in general, it can be hard to find employment if you are someone who prioritizes lifestyle after residency. I know that practice settings are REALLY variable, but just... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Challenge to Dr Russo: Economics of Hospital Employment vs Private Practice for New Grads/Transitioning Physicians
Dr Russo Let me go into the economics of HOPD employment vs "Private Practice" now from a purely compensation perspective in many cases: 1) HOPD starts physician at 450-500K for first 2-3 years. Private Practice has "3 year partnership" starting the physician at 250-300K or so per year. (Gradient: 500k-275K *3= 675K). So you are essentially starting 700K in the red just signing with the private practice. Good luck partnering in an increasingly costly "mill" practice that is losing docs...
