Actions Speak Louder Than Words...
If you want to send your elected representatives a powerful message, tell them that the status quo is not sustainable and opt out of Medicare. This is every physician's choice regardless of employment status (1099 vs. K-1 vs. W-2). If we stand together, we can make a difference. Viewpoint: The Losses to Physician Medicare Reimbursement in 2022/23 are Mind-boggling. Update to “When Will Enough Be Enough.” "Inflation acts like a hidden tax which erodes the buying power of people’s income and savings and eats away at the ability to...

Okay to list this as Clinical employment and then explain the situation?
Hi - I have been a medical advocate with a rape crisis center since 2014 with a couple-year break during the pandemic. They offer contractual pay if you exceed 24 total hours of call per month. I way exceed that. I like the work and need the money. The problem is that this is a new program (paying volunteers for excess call shifts) that just started this year. I didn't get paid my first several years here. I feel like I shouldn't list this as Volunteer-Clinical if I got 1099 pay towards... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Red Flag for Clinical hours?
Hi everyone. I have a clinical vol activity for 3 years and it totals to 111 hours and another clinical vol for 4 years for 100 hours. I was wondering would that raise a red flag on my app since its so little for so long time? also I have 300 other clinical volunteering and 1000+ clinical employment for context. I would appreciate your feedback. @LizzyM @Goro (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Employment Questions
I want to learn a little more about things I should do before signing a job offer. Ideally, I would go over the contract with a lawyer and try to negotiate the contract. Realistically, I do not want to spend >$1,000 (guess) for attorney fees. Also, I want to know a little bit about how did you decide to choose one practice over the other. What about some suspicious signs you had? For example, having a zoom interview and then getting an offer doesn't raise a red flag? I was the one... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is it worth it to keep volunteering?
I plan on applying for the 2023-2024 cycle, and I want to set myself up to be competitive top schools. The rest of my application is pretty strong (GPA, clinical employment, research with publications, leadership/teaching, interesting non-medical ECs), but I feel like my volunteering just 'checks the box' and might hold me back a bit as a result. I have been volunteering in at-home hospice care, and I've been seeing the same patient for almost a year and have grown very close to him, but he... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

credentialing
I accepted a medical director position at a reasonably prestigious place. i'm undergoing credentialing however they are asking for things that I have never been asked before and it seems over the top/bizarre. have any of you being asked for an evaluation from your current place of employment? (not references - i have provided those already), as well as training evaluations from residency/fellowship, all my degrees, all my info on training, etc. It seems so bizarre? Also do any of you keep... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Strange nonclinical employment situation - Red flag?
I had many, many years where I couldn't hold down a job for very long due to transportation issues related to poorly controlled epilepsy. I lived in a rural area where Uber was not an option. Our only cab company was one guy (who creeped me out to boot!). If he was busy with another passenger, you were bum out of luck. It's not like walking was an option for me either. I eventually gave up! There were limited options for someone who couldn't do any kind of farm labor in a rural area too. I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

AAPIC Application (AAPI) Disclosing a Sealed Record
Hi there everyone. I'm applying to Clinical Psychology internships this fall (for the 2023-24 year) using AAPI and I'm unsure about disclosing a sealed record from 2012 when I was 18. I received a Minor in Possession of alcohol ticket, which is a misdemeanor without arrest, but it was sealed by the court after I completed their requirements shortly after. I haven't reported it on any employment, graduate school, or practicum applications/paperwork this far without consequence and, as far as... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
