employment history check
Is employment history in a background check that schools do? I worked in the family restaurant on and off for many years, often cash. When I reported it on a primary and secondaries, I just gave general dates but maybe not official? I just want to make sure this would not be an issue if a background check is done and history is compared. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

A Few Qs: Does Training Count? Only 1 Research? Nonclinical volunteering Question.
Hello all, I saw some posts on SDN and they prompted me to have more questions regarding my current standing and future planning: 1. As I was getting my EMT cert, I did ridealongs (~50 hours) and did most of the patient monitoring etc. However, I know this is a gray area as it was during my education. Should I add these hours to my clinical employment hours that I have or just leave them off the app as a whole? 2. Is it okay to have several hundred research hours all from 1 lab/project... Teaching?
Hi all, how is a full-time teaching position in public schools viewed in medical schools apps? I've made all the necessary arrangements and am choosing between teaching full-time for two years, and an AmeriCorps position doing something similar. I would not be doing this only for medical school apps, as I genuinely enjoy teaching, I'm just wondering which would be viewed better. I know teaching would technically be classified as Paid Employment, but is it viewed similarly to community... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Negotiating new employment contract
Hi all, I am roughly a year out from my first contract (a two-year contract) expiring. This is my first position after graduating residency. I think overall the position itself is good as far as employed positions go. Without going into too much detail, this is an outpatient position at a hospital-associated clinic which is part of a small hospital system. They've had a few psychiatrists leave across the system within the last year, and are having difficulty hiring psychiatrists or middle... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What is the best category for a Specimen Processor?
I was a specimen processor and not sure how to categorize. There are two options on the AMCAS application 1. Paid employment: (medical/clinical) 2. Paid employment: (nonmedical/clinical) I received incoming specimens from patient floors and clinics. Inspected the specimen to ensure it is in the correct tube, is not damaged, etc. Prepared them by (centrifuged, divided into aliquots) and transported to the requested lab. So clearly, this is NOT clinical since I'm not interacting with... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Questions for the hospital employed
With decreasing reimbursement coupled with increasing salaries it is getting harder and harder for private practice groups to stay afloat. An ever increasing stipend has some hospitals saying “screw this, we will just employ the group”. I have only worked in a private practice model so I’m curious what some of the details of hospital employment looks like. For us, the motivation to do some of the day to day tasks is because we are running our own business, want it to succeed and therefore... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hello, kind people of SDN! I am a non-trad student (3 years out of college) with high stats and solid clinical experience, but no (meaningful) research.
