Starting solo practice in NJ - chances of success
I’ve heard all the doom and gloom, I’ve been thru 7 years of employment in various settings (Hospitalist; UC, and traditional FP). I’m sick and tired of being employed and being a cog in a wheel for a hospital or health system. I’ve saved prudently, and I would like to open a solo family practice in central NJ. All I hear is to do cash only, or concierge. I want to do a traditional practice, outpatient only, and take all major insurers. What are my chances for success? What should I... Stay at home moms, what's your story? Any of you been admitted to med school?
I've had too much wine and I am so discouraged as a reapplicant that I'm coming out of lurking to post. I think not having any paid employment for 10+ years is such a red mark on my app. I got no love from my state school last round, and I've never felt so inferior in my life, despite the service I (and many other homemakers) contribute to family-centric activities and the community in general. I'm feeling like as soon as my "profession" is found out, I'm just disregarded and judged. I... Stay at home moms, what's your story? Any of you been admitted to med school? Future Employment Opportunities
Hi! Does a OT school's ranking play a role in getting a job in the future?? Does going to school on the West coast make it hard to obtain a job on the East coast and vice versa?? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Worried this just looks like box-checking. Is this going to be a red flag?
Hey everyone! Thanks in advance for the help. I’m applying this cycle and focusing on pretty competitive schools (NYC area) because location is super important to be for personal reasons. I admittedly started focusing on clinical hours way too late. My other stats are good (3.8/518) and I have plenty of continunity for non-clinical volunteering (maybe 400 hours with a few organizations over three years of undergrad) and good research (3 semesters in undergrad and now full time employment... Opening a new “Dental Practice” days are numbered.
A lot of people in the dental industry are planning a slow down for dental services this year and in 2021. This is not a good news for most dentists who want to build a practice from scratch in the next couple of years: A. The covid19 employment factor: A large number of dentists are currently unemployed and will continue to be unemployed if their employers can’t keep them busy in the coming months, specially for elective cases. A vaccine will eventually help bring this prolonged... Opening a new “Dental Practice” days are numbered. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Game-changer or Not:Will Pain Go Back to Business as Usual Post-COVID-19?
I'm seeing increased autonomy for CRNA's, PA's/NP's, a massive exodus of MD/DO's from hospital/health system employment, increased scrutiny and pressure on Admin, employment contracts with "Corona Triggers," telemedicine as a standard operating procedure, increased momentum toward unionization, and bargain-basement prices on new hire salaries this year... Resident Hazard Pay?
So this thread has been blowing up today from an NYU resident and I'm kind of mixed about it. 1. Yeah, working in NYC has to be straight up awful right now 2. Hospital system revenue is down as much as 50% or more right now depending on where you're at and support staff who are making even less than the residents are losing their jobs. Despite the risks, residents still have stable employment 3. Of all the professions in the hospital who need a... Resident Hazard Pay? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is it risky to write my PS in a narrative/story format?
Hi all, I recently finished the first draft of my PS (inspired by narrative medicine) and received pretty divided comments. One physician said that "you're not writing a story or a book", while another physician commented "very lovely and personal". I have several years of clinical experience (paid employment) so I centered my PS around patient encounters (my own+through shadowing). I plan to apply broadly but I'm very interested in programs that offer training in narrative medicine and... Is it risky to write my PS in a narrative/story format? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I am colorblind. The residency to which I matched has a question asking about color blindness in the pre-employment physical. Is there anyway I could be disqualified from the position for this? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Associates should be demanding W-2 employment, not contractor status, after the market recovers
I have yet to see anyone arguing for a culture shift for associates regarding being a contractor or W-2 employee. I was lucky enough to be a W-2 and when COVID knocked me out, I had no problems with unemployment insurance. Not the same for my classmates that were contractors. Yes, I do know CARES makes an exception, but we shouldn't have to assume the government will bail contractors out as soon as crap hits the fan. What are y'alls thoughts? Corona-Triggers in MD Employment Contracts
I'm hearing reports of Admin including various "corona-triggers"--ie "in the event of a national or state emergency RVU conversations shall be suspended or reduced **%." Is anyone else seeing this in their jurisdictions? What is a good counteroffer or symmetrical offset for these kinds of stipulations? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
