Myths and expectations for clinical hours
Hi, I have looked at many posts regarding clinical hours and wanted to hear from the people from the adcoms or those people who served in the adcom before. I did come across a post where LIzzyM commented (suboptimal, decent, exceptional) 1. clinical hours (work or volunteer): 99, 150, 1,000+ (employment) 2. non-clinical volunteering hours: 99, 150, 1,000+ (full-time gap year) 3. shadowing hours: 8, 40, 80 There is no doubt that having as many as hours one could get is certainly helpful... Failed Pre-Employment Drug Screen Influence on Med School Application
Hi everyone, I would need some input on this since I can find no information online. So I failed the pre-employment drug screen for Michigan Medicine due to micro-dose THC (though I'm prescribed Marijuana for PTSD-associated night terrors and sleepwalking) which was expected since the hospital is federally funded. The agency was HireRight and my screen would last for 1 year aka I can be employed a year later if I pass the drug screen then. I don't know if it is true and wonder if there... Nocturnist neurohospitalist salary
I have a hypothetical question on employment that I thought I'd ask here. Academic institution pays X annual salary for full-time neurohospitalist attending daytime coverage (7/7 model). Institution is moving to implement overnight attending in-house coverage as well. If you had to estimate, what would you think the salary would be? Or, what would you ask for (as a percentage of X)? A quick search online suggests nocturnists make 10-20% more than day shift (so 1.10-1.2 of X) but I haven't... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Non-clinical volunteering & non-profit employment
Hi y'all! I'm a very non-traditional student (will be 10 yrs out of undergrad when I apply). I do have at least 1,000 hours non-clinical volunteering back in 2017 directly with those less fortunate than myself but I know this is old. I have also spent the better part of the last 10 years working in non-profits, some in direct service and some in advocacy. I'm wondering how adcoms will view this and if I need more non-clinical volunteering. On the one hand I hope that dedicating the last... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

High MCAT Reapplicant Advice/School List Help
Hello! I applied this cycle and am either waitlisted or waiting to hear back from the schools I interviewed with. In the meantime, I am preparing to reapply 2022-2023 cycle and am trying to figure out what I need to prioritize moving forward and am looking for help rebuilding a school list. The clinic I scribe for right now is most likely going to shut down the scribe program due to financial reasons/low patient volume, so I would also greatly appreciate employment ideas! Stats: 3.75... All time low? West Coast University advertises on the radio to get applicants.
Was driving home, heard an advertisement on a very popular radio station asking listeners if they want to study to become a doctor of pharmacy at West Coast University. The advertisement had a disclaimer that employment is NOT guaranteed. I'd say that has to be considered one of the all time low moments for the profession. Maybe as low as WCU CPJE passing rate: CPJE Pass Rates – California School of Pharmacy by Percent: 46.2% NAPLEX Pass Rates – California School of Pharmacy by Percent... Medical "clearance" for high intensity activities when working fast track or urgent care
Hello, when working fast track or urgent care, people come in with medical "clearance" pre-employment forms which state that the doctor says they are qualified to do high intensity activities such as run two miles, swim 500 meters, etc. Sometimes, it's the person who wants to enter the police academy, or it may be somebody who wants to do an endurance sporting event. This is an activity level far beyond the person who just needs a basic exam so they can go be a teacher or enroll in pharmacy... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Telepsych and Noncompete
I'm exploring employment opportunities following the conclusion of my current contract. I'm looking at one telepsych position that is based out of a hospital system on the other end of the state. I work for a local community hospital doing inpatient work. The noncompete following separation with my current employer is 2 years and 10 miles. My actual home address is unfortunately within the radius of this noncompete. I'm not sure if the noncompete would bar me from practicing telepsych within...
