Myths and expectations for clinical hours
Hi, I have looked at many posts regarding clinical hours and wanted to hear from the people from the adcoms or those people who served in the adcom before.
I did come across a post where LIzzyM commented
(suboptimal, decent, exceptional)
1. clinical hours (work or volunteer): 99, 150, 1,000+ (employment)
2. non-clinical volunteering hours: 99, 150, 1,000+ (full-time gap year)
3. shadowing hours: 8, 40, 80
There is no doubt that having as many as hours one could get is certainly helpful...

Failed Pre-Employment Drug Screen Influence on Med School Application
Hi everyone,
I would need some input on this since I can find no information online. So I failed the pre-employment drug screen for Michigan Medicine due to micro-dose THC (though I'm prescribed Marijuana for PTSD-associated night terrors and sleepwalking) which was expected since the hospital is federally funded. I have a hypothetical question on employment that I thought I'd ask here.
Academic institution pays X annual salary for full-time neurohospitalist attending daytime coverage (7/7 model). Institution is moving to implement overnight attending in-house coverage as well. If you had to estimate, what would you think the salary would be? Or, what would you ask for (as a percentage of X)? Non-clinical volunteering & non-profit employment
Hi y'all! I'm a very non-traditional student (will be 10 yrs out of undergrad when I apply). I do have at least 1,000 hours non-clinical volunteering back in 2017 directly with those less fortunate than myself but I know this is old. I have also spent the better part of the last 10 years working in non-profits, some in direct service and some in advocacy. Was driving home, heard an advertisement on a very popular radio station asking listeners if they want to study to become a doctor of pharmacy at West Coast University. The advertisement had a disclaimer that employment is NOT guaranteed. I'd say that has to be considered one of the all time low moments for the profession.
