Enhancing students ’ classical Chinese reading through a two-year flipped self-regulated learning intervention program
This study investigated the feasibility and effectiveness of using a flipped classroom (FC) approach to combine self-regulated learning (SRL) instruction and out-of-class eLearning activities in a two-year reading intervention program to facilitate students ’ learning of classical Chinese reading. A total of 352 junior secondary students from three Hong Kong secondary schools participated in the study voluntarily. Using a quasi-experimental design, students from each school were assigned to one of the following conditions: SRL instruction plus out-of -class eLearning (EG-I+E), SRL instruction only (EG-I), and control (CG...

The UEMS experience in continuous medical education accreditation process: a 'quo vadis' analysis of our global database
CONCLUSIONS: Despite EACCME providing a robust framework for the CPD/CME accreditation process, reporting quality can still be improved, as more than 1 in 2 events fail to provide a clear description of their needs assessment. To the authors' knowledge, this is the largest educational LEE/ELM database, which can be a starting to revisit the CME/CPD accreditation process.PMID:38333329 | PMC:PMC10849379 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001583 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Enhancing care for transgender and gender diverse survivors of intimate partner violence: an Ontario-wide survey examining health and social service providers learning needs
Conclusions The results of this study highlight the critical need for an IPV curriculum specific to trans survivors and responsive to the needs of providers. As no one profession can address this complex issue in isolation, it is important that the curriculum aims to facilitate collaboration across sectors. In the absence of appropriate training and referrals, practitioners may perpetuate harm when caring for trans survivors of IPV. (Source: BMJ Open)

Implementing adaptive e-learning for newborn care in Tanzania: an observational study of provider engagement and knowledge gains
Conclusion aESNC reach was high in a population of frontline providers across diverse levels of care in Tanzania. Use of in-person support and nudging increased reach, initial learning and refresher assignment completion, but refresher assignment completion remains low. Providers were often unaware of knowledge gaps, and lower baseline knowledge may decrease initial learning completion or activity. Further study to identify barriers to adaptive e-learning normalisation is needed. (Source: BMJ Open)

Face-to-face and e-learning during the COVID-19 pandemic: A Pakistani dental undergraduates perspective
CONCLUSION: Pakistani dental students indicated satisfaction with numerous aspects of e-learning, such as technical skills, accessibility to instructors and classmates, the value of technology, improvement of oral communication skills, promotion of hybrid model learning, and utilization of tutorial services compared to face-to-face education concerning the year of study.PMID:38277321 | DOI:10.3233/WOR-220634 (Source: Work)

Continuing Professional Development at Two Rural Hospitals in Ecuador
CONCLUSION: E-learning CPD is an important and emerging element for CPD and may provide opportunities for healthcare service quality improvement as part of broader pedagogical modalities, such as conferences and directed readings, in rural and remote areas of LMICs. These pilot programs could provide important information to develop Spanish-language e-learning CPD programs across a broader region, promote collaboration with regional professional societies, and possibly contribute to the establishment of national health program CPD standards.PMID:38273869 | PMC:PMC10809859 | DOI:10.5334/aogh.4175 (Source: Rural Remote Health)

Improving clinical competence with LGBTQ+ patients in the paediatric emergency department: an education intervention study
This study aimed to assess the impact of online education on staff clinical competence in caring for LGBTQ+ young people in the PED. Methods Using a pre-test post-test design, competence was assessed at baseline, 2 and 12 weeks post an educational intervention consisting of an existing eLearning module,... A study on mindful agency's influence on college students' engagement with online teaching: The mediating roles of e-learning self-efficacy and self-regulation
CONCLUSIONS: By identifying the two intermediary pathways and the orderly chain structure pathways in which mindful agency influences college students' identification with online teaching, this study contributes to the theoretical research on mindfulness in online teaching contexts, the expansion of empirical research on the impact of mindful agency on identification with online teaching, and the development of practical reference materials for improving identification with online teaching.PMID:38237473 | DOI:10.1016/j.actpsy.2024.104146 (Source: Acta Psychologica)

Latent-state and model-based learning in PTSD
Trends Neurosci. 2024 Feb;47(2):150-162. doi: 10.1016/j.tins.2023.12.002. Epub 2024 Jan 11.ABSTRACTPost-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is characterized by altered emotional and behavioral responding following a traumatic event. In this article, we review the concepts of latent-state and model-based learning (i.e., learning and inferring abstract task representations) and discuss their relevance for clinical and neuroscience models of PTSD. Recent data demonstrate evidence for brain and behavioral biases in these learning processes in PTSD. These new data potentially recast excessive fear towards trauma cues as a problem ...

Cross-sectional study of attitudes toward online continuing dental education in Libya during the COVID-19 pandemic
by Ranya F. Elemam, Jamal M. El Swiah, Abduallah O. Durda, Nagwa N. Hegazy During the COVID-19 pandemic, many educational institutions switched to e-learning educational platforms. This approach was essential but raised challenges, particularly in training practitioners for medical emergencies. This approach not only led to global challenges and a need for rapid adaptati on, but also raised inequities across countries, with some facing far more technical challenges than others. In Libya, low investment in education technology and unpredictable internet connectivity limited its integration into schools and universities eve...

E-learning accelerates improvement of endoscopists' proximal serrated polyp detection rate: a randomized controlled trial
Conclusion In an era of increased awareness and increasing PSPDRs, endoscopists who performed an one-time e-learning significantly accelerated the increase of PSPDR compared to endoscopists who did not receive the e-learning. Widespread implementation might reduce PCCRCs incidence. This trial was registered with the Netherlands Trial Register, number NL8385.PMID:38191001 | DOI:10.1055/a-2240-7823 (Source: Cancer Control)
