Efficacy of Sevoflurane and Propofol Anesthesia on Perioperative Adverse Cardiovascular Events and Hemodynamics in Elderly Patients With Diabetes
This study was undertaken to compare the effects of sevoflurane and propofol anesthesia on perioperative hemodynamics and perioperative adverse cardiovascular events (PACE) in elderly patients with diabetes undergoing general anesthesia for noncardiac surgery.METHODS: According to the random number table (n = 40), 80 patients with diabetes undergoing noncardiac general anesthesia were divided into a control group and an observation group. In the control group, the patients were given propofol 4 to 6 mg/(kg·h), continuously pumped to maintain anesthesia. In the observation group, the patients were given maintained concentr...

Propofol anesthesia improves stroke outcomes over isoflurane anesthesia —a longitudinal multiparametric MRI study in a rodent model of transient middle cerebral artery occlusion
General anesthesia is routinely used in endovascular thrombectomy procedures, for which volatile gas and/or intravenous propofol are recommended. Emerging evidence suggests propofol may have superior effects on disability and/or mortality rates, but a mode-of-action underlying these class-specific effects remains unknown. Here, a moderate isoflurane or propofol dosage on experimental stroke outcomes was retrospectively compared using serial multiparametric MRI and behavioral testing. Adult male rats (N = 26) were subjected to 90-min filament-induced transient middle cerebral artery occlusion. Diffusion-, T2- and perfus...

Comparison of remimazolam-based and propofol-based total intravenous anesthesia on hemodynamics during anesthesia induction in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement: a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionRemimazolam-based total intravenous anesthesia resulted in a lower hypotension rate than propofol-based total intravenous anesthesia during induction in patients undergoing TAVR. Remimazolam-based total intravenous anesthesia can be used safely during anesthetic induction in patients with severe aortic stenosis. (Source: Journal of Anesthesia)

General purpose propofol target-controlled infusion using the marsh model with adjusted weight input
We report a simple method for adjusting the weight input of the Marsh target-controlled infusion (TCI) model such that the resulting infusion regime closely mimics the behaviour of the Eleveld model, thereby making the Marsh model more precise for patients at the extremes of age and body mass index. To assess the performance of our method, we simulated 2768 subjects with diverse combinations of age, weight, height and sex undergoing a hypothetical four-hour propofol TCI using both the Marsh model with our weight adjustment and the Eleveld model. The weight adjusted Marsh model produced infusion regimes and corresponding ef...

Postanesthesia Care Unit and Anesthetic Management Outcomes Among Patients Undergoing Noncardiac Surgery: Differences by Race and Ethnicity
CONCLUSIONS: The rate of appropriate number of PONV prophylactic medications as well as the incidence of PONV were similar in patients from racial and ethnic minority populations compared to non-Hispanic White patients. However, there was a lower use of PROP in racial and ethnic minority patients. It is important to have a health equity lens to identify differences in management that may contribute to disparities within each phase of perioperative care.PMID:38323973 | DOI:10.1016/j.jopan.2023.11.011 (Source: Journal of Perianesthesia Nursing)

Comparison of remimazolam and propofol combined with low dose esketamine for pediatric same-day painless bidirectional endoscopy: a randomized, controlled clinical trial
Conclusion: Remimazolam combined with low dose esketamine has a non-inferior sedative effect than propofol for pediatric BDE, with no injection pain, less respiratory depression, more stable hemodynamics. Moreover, early detection of the decline in PI may avoid harmful stimulation under light anesthesia.Clinical trial registration:https://www.clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT05686863?id=NCT05686863&rank=1, NCT05686863 (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)
