Comparison of Deep and Moderate Neuromuscular Blockade for Major Laparoscopic Surgery in Children: A Randomized Controlled Trial
ConclusionsA deep NMB provided better operative conditions and similar recovery profiles compared with a moderate NMB as reversed with sugammadex in children undergoing major laparoscopic surgery.Clinical Trial RegistrationChinese Clinical Trial Registry, No. ChiCTR2100053821. Managing a difficult airway due to supraglottic masses: successful videolaryngoscopic intubation after induction of general anesthesia
ConclusionsVideolaryngoscopic intubation after induction of general anesthesia can be a feasible alternative for managing difficult airways in patients with supraglottic masses. This approachshould be based on a comprehensive preoperative evaluation, adequate preparation, and preplanned strategies to address potential challenges, such as inadequate oxygenation and unsuccessful tracheal intubation. A Rotational Study of 2-tert-Butylphenol and Its 1:1 Argon Complex
Chemphyschem. 2024 Mar 19:e202400089. doi: 10.1002/cphc.202400089. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe chirped-pulse Fourier Transform microwave spectrum of 2-tert-butylphenol, an industrial intermediate for the production of antioxidants, has been investigated in the 2-8 GHz frequency range. The spectral analysis has allowed obtaining precise structural information on the most stable conformer and its complex with argon. The conformation of the monomer reveals that the hydroxyl group is coplanar with the ring but points in the opposite direction to the tert-butyl group, reducing steric interactions. In the terbutyl group on...

Reducing hydrophobic drug adsorption in an in-vitro extracorporeal membrane oxygenation model
Eur J Pharm Biopharm. 2024 Mar 13:114261. doi: 10.1016/j.ejpb.2024.114261. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExtracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a life-saving cardiopulmonary bypass technology for critically ill patients with heart and lung failure. Patients treated with ECMO receive a range of drugs that are used to treat underlying diseases and critical illnesses. However, the dosing guidelines for these drugs used in ECMO patients are unclear. Mortality rate for patients on ECMO exceeds 40% partly due to inaccurate dosing information, caused in part by the adsorption of drugs in the ECMO circuit and its components...

Neuropsychological follow-up of isoflurane sedated intensive care patients: a substudy of a randomized trial
CONCLUSIONS: Isoflurane sedation leads to more delirium free days during the ICU treatment and more factual memories of the ICU stay one year after the ICU stay. However long-term outcome of ventilated ICU patients is poor, and there were no differences between isoflurane and propofol sedation.PMID:38482637 | DOI:10.23736/S0375-9393.24.17834-0 (Source: Minerva Anestesiologica)

Adverse Drug Events Observed with the Newly Approved Remimazolam in Comparison to Propofol for General Anesthesia in Patients Undergoing Surgery: A Meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Our current analysis showed that the newly approved remimazolam was apparently associated with significantly fewer adverse drug events in comparison to propofol for GA in patients undergoing surgery. Therefore, this new drug should be further studied and more research with larger population sizes should be carried out to confirm this hypothesis.PMID:38480661 | DOI:10.1007/s12325-024-02820-1 (Source: Adv Data)
