Crohn's disease
is a chronic, relapsing and remitting inflammatory disease  affecting any area of the gastrointestinal tract. It is becoming increasingly prevalent in western Europe, the USA and China, with the highest age-standardized prevalent rates in Norway. It is associated with modifiable risk factors such as smoking and diet, and non-modifiable risk factors includi ng gene variants; however, there is no specific method to prevent its onset or effect a cure. Patients often complain of diarrhoea and abdominal pain, but symptoms can occur intermittently for many years before diagnosis. (Source: Medicine)

Health-related quality of life assessment among patients with oesophageal cancer at Tikur Anbessa Specialised Tertiary Hospital in Ethiopia: a cross sectional study

Ongoing measles outbreak, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, December 2023 to February 2024
We report on an ongoing measles outbreak in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina with 141 cases notified between week 52 2023 and week 6 2024. Among those with known vaccination status, 97% were unvaccinated and the most affected group is children under the age of 5 years (n = 87) who were not vaccinated during the pandemic years. Sixty-eight cases were hospitalised, the most common complications were measles-related pneumonia and diarrhoea. The sequenced measles viruses from four cases belonged to genotype D8.PMID:38426241 | DOI:10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2024.29.9.2400107 (Source: Euro Surveill)

Increase of healthcare-onset Clostridioides difficile infection in adult population since SARS-CoV-2 pandemic: A retrospective cohort study in a tertiary care hospital from 2019 to 2022
CONCLUSIONS: implementation of infection control measures during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic did not appear to alleviate the burden of HO-CDI. The escalation in HO-CDI cases did not exhibit a correlation with overall antibiotic consumption, except for meropenem.PMID:38428802 | DOI:10.1016/j.anaerobe.2024.102836 (Source: Anaerobe)
