Interesting Case
90yo AAF for nailing of femur fx. 80kg. 5'4. Severe dementia. Very Combative and pulls out IVs on the floor. She also has a very large goiter on the left side of her neck the size of a large grapefruit. CT scan says this mass displaces the trachea to the right significantly and causes "moderate" airway narrowing. It is thought to be a benign thyroid mass. She is currently breathing on room air without difficulty satting 98. She has a working IV. This is a person who has not had this... Interesting Case (Source: Student Doctor Network)

how subspecialized are neuro jobs
I'm a medical student considering neurology. How realistic is it as a neurologist to practice only what you do your fellowship in and not see general neurology patients? I'm interested in movement disorders, behavioral neurology (dementia), or sleep medicine fellowships. I like the idea of being a specialist in one of these areas and only seeing those patients in my clinic. Is it common for neurologists to find jobs in their subspecialty only or are most neurologists still seeing general... how subspecialized are neuro jobs (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Psuedodementia
Okay. I need help. I had a discussion with one of my interviewers about "Psuedodementia". I was wondering if this is actually a real diagnosis or is this depression unmasking real dementia? I always thought it was depression that was so severe that it causes a clinical picture of dementia. However, it isn't progressive or stepwise, usually has a proximal stressor and no other medical causes can be ruled in. What do people think? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is this considered clinical research? (mixture of nursing home/hospice)
I currently volunteer at what is known as an infirmary inside a nursing home. The patients there are those that need medical attention beyond the norm at a nursing home. Ex: an elderly man who just came back from his cancer treatment or someone suffering from dementia. It also includes those who have no other family and are extremely old (90s and above); the nurses said that it's similar to a hospice. There are also no in-house physicians, just nurses. I talk to them and keep them company.... Is this considered clinical research? (mixture of nursing home/hospice) (Source: Student Doctor Network)
