Best steps to take now to become a physician scientists?
I am finishing up my 1st year of medical school at a mid-tier USMD, and I am wanting to become a physician-scientist doing research in dementia/similar aging-related processes of the brain. Long story short, I realized I wanted to do this too late and did not apply to MD/PhD programs and can't transfer into my own school's MD/PhD program. I did some basic science research in undergrad, and in my gap year I was full-time in another basic science lab doing research on Alzheimer's Disease which... Hodgkin's with no chemo
78 yo man with significant comorbidites (vasculopath, DMII with left BKA, cad, worsening dementia) has a distant history 15 years ago of treatment for dlbcl in remission now found to have growing supraclav node biopsied positive for nodular sclerosing Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Very poor chemo candidate per med onc. Asking if we can give RT alone. PET shows right cervical/supraclav nodal conglomerate and a Right IMN. What would you do here, has anyone done STLI? Just treat involved field and follow? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Thoughts on elderly patient with sudden onset psychosis
60 something female with no previous psych history per reliable family (including husband). About 6 months ago became more paranoid, suspicious of family. Fearful of food - only prepares her own. Two psych hospitalizations since then for paranoia, hearing voices. Most recently hospitalized because she attempted to stab husband - thinks family is evil. Labs so far normal, awaiting head ct. Neuro saw her and thinks it is primary psych, doubts dementia as do I given the sudden onset. Any... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What counts as clinical Experience?
Hi I just had a few questions about what activities counts as clinical experience. I currently am a ER volunteer where I dispatch patients on wheel chairs, get water, get blankets, restock gloves, and observe/shadow procedures being preformed. I am also volunteering at and Adult Day care center for dementia patients where I conduct like arts and craft and going out on walks with them. Do either of these count as clinical experience? Thanks (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PhD to MD - enough clinical hours to apply?
Graduated with Neuroscience (human/cognitive) PhD and decided MD would be more fulfilling. I am wondering if my clinical experience will be enough (outlined below) or if I should wait another cycle? 2013-2015: clinical research coordinator: direct dementia patient interaction in hospital (administered battery of cognitive tests, walked them around hospital) 2016-2017: lab manager, participant interaction but not clinical 2017-2022 PhD: no... Delirium/Dementia vs Delusional disorder
Interesting case and would appreciate some thoughts. 87-year-old female, lives alone. History breast cancer, Stage 3 CKD, hypothyroid (admit TSH 12, T4 0.9 which is low end normal), HLD, Paroxysmal Afib (current EKG sinus), glaucoma. Admitted with 1-2 months persecutory delusions someone is trespassing on her property and trying to break in. Has guns at home to defend herself. Police have been called several times by her and brought her to ED because there are no signs of trespassers and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How can I get honors on neuro shelf exam?
MS3 student currently doing neurology rotation right now. I would like to get honors grade on my neurology rotation which means apparently scoring at least approximately 75th percentile on shelf exam. What are some good resources for achieving this other than Uworld and anki? I have noticed that I have forgotten a lot of fundamental neuro knowledge from Step 1 such as dementia, movement disorders etc. Should I give First Aid step 1 neuro section a try?
