Anal Chim Acta. 2024 May 29;1305:342584. doi: 10.1016/j.aca.2024.342584. Epub 2024 Apr 10.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Inorganic pyrophosphatase (PPase) is key enzyme playing a key role in biochemical transformations such as biosynthesis of DNA and RNA, bone formation, metabolic pathways associated with lipid, carbohydrate and phosphorous. It has been reported that lung adenocarcinomas, colorectal cancer, and hyperthyroidism disorders can result from abnormal level of PPase. Therefore, it is of notable significance to develop simple and effective real time assay for PPase enzyme activity monitoring for screening of many metabolic p...

Decellularized periosteum and sodium alginate-based photoresponsive dressing with copper selenide nanoparticles for infected-wound healing in diabetic mice
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Apr 25:131895. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131895. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDiabetes-related skin ulcers are of significant clinical concern. Although conventional dressings have been developed, their outcomes have not been adequate, indicating the need to investigate functional dressings for the treatment of diabetic ulcers. Copper selenide nanoparticles (Cu2Se NPs) demonstrate outstanding photoresponsiveness, which is critical to the healing process. However, their limited solubility in water restricts their application. To synthesize the ODT-PMMA@Cu2Se NP-doped decellularized periosteumâ€...

Combined effect of grooves and nanoflower structured Co < sub > 3 < /sub > O < sub > 4 < /sub > coating on bamboo wood for highly efficient solar steam generation at indoor and outdoor conditions
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Apr 27. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-33420-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCurrently, interfacial solar steam generation (ISSG) in desalinating water has become very popular for obtaining purified water from polluted water. However, finding an efficient evaporator with low cost is a challenging task for researchers. In this work, we introduce natural bamboo wood (BW) that acts as an interfacial evaporator for obtaining purified water. Four different wood evaporators namely, flat wood (BW-FW), two-cut grooved wood (BW-2G), four-cut grooved wood (BW-4G), and four-cut grooved with Co3O4-coated woo...

Chip-based automated equipment for dual-mode point-of-care testing foodborne pathogens
Biosens Bioelectron. 2024 Apr 25;257:116338. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2024.116338. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFoodborne pathogens have a substantial bearing on food safety and environmental health. The development of automated, portable and compact devices is essential for the on-site and rapid point-of-care testing (POCT) of bacteria. Here, this work developed a micro-automated microfluidic device for detecting bacteria, such as Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7, using a seashell-like microfluidic chip (SMC) as an analysis and mixing platform. The automated device integrates a colorimetric/fluorescent system for the metabo...

Adsorption structures, vibrational Raman spectra and chemical binding properties of thioglycolic  acid on Cu(111) surfaces: A DFT study
Chemphyschem. 2024 Apr 27:e202400330. doi: 10.1002/cphc.202400330. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCopper is widely used in everyday life and industrial production because of its good electrical and thermal conductivity. To overcome copper oxidation and maintain its good physical properties, small organic molecules adsorbed on the surface of copper make a passivated layer to further avoid copper corrosion. In this work, we have investigated thioglycolic acid (TGA, another name is mercaptoacetic acid) adsorbed on copper surfaces by using density functional theory (DFT) calculations and a periodical slab model. We first get fi...

Zinc oxide nanoflakes supported copper oxide nanosheets as a bifunctional electrocatalyst for OER and HER in an alkaline medium
Environ Res. 2024 Apr 25:119030. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2024.119030. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBifunctional electrocatalysts are the attractive research in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in the overall water-splitting reactions. The design and development of the cost-effective OER/HER bifunctional electrocatalysts with superior catalytic activity are still remaining as the big challenges. Herein, we have developed the CuO-ZnO nanocomposite as a bifunctional OER/HER electrocatalyst via simple chemical precipitation method. The nanocomposite was investigated for its crystalli...

Oenothera biennis with strong copper toxicity resistance enriches trace copper in seeds under copper pollution soil
Ecotoxicol Environ Saf. 2024 Apr 25;277:116382. doi: 10.1016/j.ecoenv.2024.116382. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExcess copper (Cu) imparts negative effects on plant growth and productivity in soil. To develop the ability of O. biennis to govern pollution soil containing excessive Cu, we investigated seed germination, seedling growth, and seed yield. Furthermore, Cu content and the expression levels of Cu transport related genes in different tissues were measured under exogenous high concentration Cu. O. biennis seeds were sensitive to excess Cu, with an observed reduction in the germination rate, primary root length, fres...

Biochemical and molecular-level effects of co-exposure to chlorpyrifos and lambda-cyhalothrin on the earthworm (Eisenia fetida)
Ecotoxicol Environ Saf. 2024 Apr 26;277:116374. doi: 10.1016/j.ecoenv.2024.116374. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFarmland soil organisms frequently encounter pesticide mixtures presented in their living environment. However, the underlying toxic mechanisms employed by soil animals to cope with such combined pollution have yet to be explored. This investigation aimed to reveal the changes in cellular and mRNA levels under chlorpyrifos (CPF) and lambda-cyhalothrin (LCT) co-exposures in earthworms (Eisenia fetida). Results exhibited that the combination of CPF and LCT triggered an acute synergistic influence on the animals. M...
