Animal Exposure Model for Mapping Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus Emergence Risk
Emerg Infect Dis. 2024 Apr;30(4):672-680. doi: 10.3201/eid3004.221604.ABSTRACTTo estimate the determinants of spatial variation in Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) transmission and to create a risk map as a preventive public health tool, we designed a survey of small domestic ruminants in Andalusia, Spain. To assess CCHFV exposure spatial distribution, we analyzed serum from 2,440 sheep and goats by using a double-antigen ELISA and modeled exposure probability with environmental predictors by using generalized linear mixed models. CCHFV antibodies detected in 84 samples confirmed low CCHFV prevalence in small ...

The influence of health service interactions and local policies on vaccination decision-making in immigrant women: A multi-site Canadian qualitative study
CONCLUSION: Given our participants' different communication preferences and needs, we argue that a one-size-fits-all communication approach is inappropriate for immigrant and refugee populations. Instead, multi-pronged communication strategies are required to reach participants and respond to previous experiences and information that may lead to vaccination hesitancy.PMID:38514354 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2024.03.014 (Source: Vaccine)

Silver oxide doped iron oxide/alginate nanocomposite coated cotton cloth for selective catalytic reduction of potassium ferricyanide
Chemosphere. 2024 Mar 19:141743. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2024.141743. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSilver oxide doped iron oxide (Ag2O-Fe2O3) nanocatalyst was prepared and coated on cotton cloth (CC) and additionally enveloped in sodium alginate (Alg) hydrogel. Ag2O-Fe2O3 coated CC (Ag2O-Fe2O3/CC) and Ag2O-Fe2O3 wrapped Alg (Ag2O-Fe2O3/Alg) were considered as catalysts regarding reduction reaction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), congo red (CR), methylene blue (MB) and potassium ferricyanide (K3[Fe(CN)6]). Ag2O-Fe2O3/CC and Ag2O-Fe2O3/Alg were found to be effective and selective catalyst for reaction of K3[Fe(CN)6]. Further am...

Compulsory Vaccination Coverage in 12 Sub-Saharan African Countries Two Years Following the COVID-19 Pandemic
This study aimed to assess compulsory vaccination coverage in 12 Sub-Saharan African countries two years following the COVID-19 pandemic using the Health Belief Model. A cross-sectional survey was conducted from November 1 to December 15, 2022. Multivariate logistic re gression was conducted to identify the determinants of vaccination coverage. Among the 5032 respondents, 73.1% reported that their children received compulsory vaccination. The lowest coverage was observed in Ghana (36.5%), while the highest was in Burkina Faso and Congo (92.0%). Factors associated with non-vaccination included older mothers (adjusted odds r...

The Successful Treatment of Mpox with Brincidofovir in Renal Transplant Recipients – A report of 2 cases
Before 2022, mpox was a rare disease that belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus [1]. The first human case was reported in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo [2]. In May 2022, a surge of mpox cases was noted in non-endemic countries leading to the world health organization (WHO) declaring a global outbreak among humans [3]. Efficacy of Sailuotong on neurovascular unit in amyloid precursor protein/presenilin-1 transgenic mice with Alzheimer's disease
CONCLUSIONS: By increasing the expression of VEGF, SLT can promote vascular proliferation, up-regulate the expression of LRP-1, promote the clearance of Aβ and improve the cognitive impairment of APP/PS1 mice. These results confirm that SLT can improve AD by promoting vascular proliferation and Aβ clearance to protect the function of NVUs.PMID:38504535 | DOI:10.19852/j.cnki.jtcm.20240203.007 (Source: Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine)

Assessing high-risk sexual practices associated with human immunodeficiency virus infection among young female sex workers in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: The study reveals a concerning trend of higher hospital HIV prevalence among YFSWs compared to the general Congolese population. It also highlights a significant link between high-risk sexual practices and HIV infection, highlighting the need for urgent interventions.PMID:38504236 | DOI:10.1186/s12981-024-00602-x (Source: AIDS Research and Therapy)
