< em > C. perfringens < /em > Blood Stream Infection due to Nontransmural Ischemia of the Esophagus, Stomach, and Left Colon: Case Report
We report the case of a 74-year-old female with abdominal pain, tarry stools, and tachycardia. Previous history included diabetes mellitus with micro- and macroangiopathy. Imaging revealed portal gas, left sided colitis, and emphysematous gastritis, besides severe atherosclerosis with subtotal celiac trunk occlusion and moderate stenosis of the inferior mesenteric artery. Upper endoscopy revealed findings consistent with focal necrotizing gastritis at the greater curvature and acute esophageal necrosis. Blood cultures immediately grew Clostridium perfringens. The patient was treated with broad spectrum antibiotics and was ...

Autolysin as a fibronectin receptor on the cell surface of Clostridium perfringens
CONCLUSIONS: We found that the Acp has a Fn-binding protein that acts as an Fn receptor on the surface of C. perfringens cells.PMID:37544355 | DOI:10.1016/j.anaerobe.2023.102769 (Source: Anaerobe)

Characterization of the Clostridium perfringens phage endolysin cpp-lys and its application on lettuce
In this study, the gene encoding cpp-lys, an endolysin from the C. perfringens phage cpp has been cloned and overexpressed. The encoded protein was characterized, and then its efficacy in controlling C. perfringens on lettuce was evaluated. The endolysin cpp-lys presented lytic activity against seven strains of C. perfringens that produce different types of toxins. It maintained stability across a wide range of temperatures (4 °C - 50 °C), and demonstrated tolerance to varying pH levels (4-9). Storage of endolysin cpp-lys under room-temperature conditions (16 °C-25 °C) and cold-temperature conditions (4 °C, -20 °C, a...

Effect of in-water administration of quorum system inhibitors in broilers' productive performance and intestinal microbiome in a mild necrotic enteritis challenge
In this study, the peptide-containing cell-free spent media (CFSM) from Enterococcus faecium was tested in NE challenged broilers in two battery cage and one floor pen studies. Results showed a significant reduction of NE mortality. Metagenomic sequencing of the jejunum microbiome revealed no impact of the CFSM on the microbial community, and growth of C. perfringens was unaffected by CFSM in vitro. The expression of QS-controlled virulence genes netB, plc and pfoA was found to be significantly repressed by CFSM during the mid-logarithmic stage of C. perfringens growth and this corresponded with a significant decrease in h...
