Ceftriaxone-Resistant Gonorrhea - China, 2022
MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep. 2024 Mar 28;73(12):255-259. doi: 10.15585/mmwr.mm7312a2.ABSTRACTGonorrhea is a widespread sexually transmitted infection; in 2022, China reported 96,313 cases of gonorrhea, making it the fourth most common notifiable infectious disease in the country after viral hepatitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, and syphilis. The rise in prevalence in antimicrobial-resistant strains, particularly the international spread of ceftriaxone-resistant clones, poses a formidable challenge to gonorrhea control. The China Gonococcal Resistance Surveillance Program (China-GRSP), established in 1987 and covering 19 of 34 p...

Copper perchlorate catalyzed oxidative cyclisation of a novel bishydrazone ligand, formation of an unusual copper complex and in vitro biological implications
J Inorg Biochem. 2024 Mar 22;255:112538. doi: 10.1016/j.jinorgbio.2024.112538. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA novel hexadentate bishydrazone ligand, 1,10-bis(di(2-pyridyl)ketone) adipic acid dihydrazone (H2L1) is synthesized and characterized. With copper perchlorate as a catalytic oxidant, the ligand undergoes oxidative cyclisation and resulted in the formation of an unusual copper complex [Cu(L1a)2Cl]ClO4 (1), where L1a is 3-(2-pyridyl)triazolo[1,5-a]-pyridine. The Cu(II) complex was characterized physicochemically, while the molecular structure was confirmed by single crystal X- ray diffraction. In the complex cation, ...

SOS genes are rapidly induced while translesion synthesis polymerase activity is temporally regulated
The DNA damage inducible SOS response in bacteria serves to increase survival of the species at the cost of mutagenesis. The SOS response first initiates error-free repair followed by error-prone repair. Here, we have employed a multi-omics approach to elucidate the temporal coordination of the SOS response. Escherichia coli was grown in batch cultivation in bioreactors to ensure highly controlled conditions, and a low dose of the antibiotic ciprofloxacin was used to activate the SOS response while avoiding extensive cell death. Our results show that expression of genes involved in error-free and error-prone repair were bo...

Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2126: Efficient Sequential Detection of Two Antibiotics Using a Fiber-Optic Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensor
Huang Su Antibiotic residues have become a worldwide public safety issue. It is vital to detect multiple antibiotics simultaneously using sensors. A new and efficient method is proposed for the combined detection of two antibiotics (enrofloxacin (Enro) and ciprofloxacin (Cip)) in milk using surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors. Based on the principle of immunosuppression, two antibiotic antigens (for Enro and Cip) were immobilized on an optical fiber surface with conjugates of bovine serum albumin using dopamine (DA) polymerization. Each single antigen was bound to its corresponding antibody to derive standard c...
