Changing dynamics of antibiotic resistant Escherichia in Caspian gulls shows the importance of longitudinal environmental studies
This study is focused on Escherichia spp. isolates resistant to critically important antibiotics (cefotaxime, ciprofloxacin and colistin) among Caspian gull's (Larus cachinnans) chicks nesting in the Nove Mlyny Water Reservoir, Czech Republic. The prevalence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in bacteria within wild birds is commonly evaluated using a single sampling event, capturing only a brief and momentary snapshot at a particular location. Therefore, the Caspian gulls in our study were sampled in May 2018 (n = 72) and May 2019 (n = 45), and a water sample was taken from the reservoir (2019). We obtained 197 isolates id...

Synergistic oxidation induced by underwater bubbling plasma and diatomite-CoFe < sub > 2 < /sub > O < sub > 4 < /sub > activated peroxymonosulfate for the degradation of ciprofloxacin hydrochloride
Environ Pollut. 2024 Mar 27:123891. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2024.123891. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUnderwater bubbling plasma (UBP) coupled with diatomite-CoFe2O4 (Dt-CFO) activated peroxymonosulfate (PMS) was proposed for the degradation of ciprofloxacin hydrochloride (CIP) in this work. The catalyst sample of Dt-CFO with large specific surface area, rich active sites and excellent magnetic property was prepared by the hydrothermal method and systematically characterized to investigate its material properties. The combination of UBP and Dt-CFO activated PMS (UBP/Dt-CFO/PMS) showed excellent synergy with the synergistic ...

A group-targeting biosensor for sensitive and rapid detection of quinolones in water samples
Anal Chim Acta. 2024 May 1;1301:342475. doi: 10.1016/j.aca.2024.342475. Epub 2024 Mar 13.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Quinolones (QNs) widely exist in the environment due to their wide range of applications and poor metabolic properties, resulting in the generation and spread of resistance genes, posing a potential threat to human health. Traditional analytical methods cannot detect all broad ranges of QNs simultaneously. The development of facile, efficient and reliable method for quantification and assessment of the total QNs is a long-lasting challenge.RESULTS: We hereby provide a simple, sensitive and instantaneous group-target...

Ceftriaxone-Resistant Gonorrhea - China, 2022
MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep. 2024 Mar 28;73(12):255-259. doi: 10.15585/mmwr.mm7312a2.ABSTRACTGonorrhea is a widespread sexually transmitted infection; in 2022, China reported 96,313 cases of gonorrhea, making it the fourth most common notifiable infectious disease in the country after viral hepatitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, and syphilis. The rise in prevalence in antimicrobial-resistant strains, particularly the international spread of ceftriaxone-resistant clones, poses a formidable challenge to gonorrhea control. The China Gonococcal Resistance Surveillance Program (China-GRSP), established in 1987 and covering 19 of 34 p...

Hydrazone-containing organotin(IV) complexes: synthesis, characterization, antimicrobial, antioxidant activity and molecular-docking studies
Biometals. 2024 Mar 28. doi: 10.1007/s10534-024-00593-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe diorganotin(IV) complexes (5-20) were synthesized in the present research from 4-fluorophenoxyacetic hydrazide and salicylaldehyde derivatives-based hydrazone ligands (1-4) to get an effective biological agent to combat microbial and oxidant deformities. Numerous spectral techniques such as (1H, 13C, 119Sn) NMR, UV-Vis, IR, and mass spectrometry were executed to illuminate the composition of complexes. These techniques ascertained tridentate chelation of hydrazone ligands with tin metal through enolic, phenolic oxygens and imine nitr...

Copper perchlorate catalyzed oxidative cyclisation of a novel bishydrazone ligand, formation of an unusual copper complex and in vitro biological implications
J Inorg Biochem. 2024 Mar 22;255:112538. doi: 10.1016/j.jinorgbio.2024.112538. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA novel hexadentate bishydrazone ligand, 1,10-bis(di(2-pyridyl)ketone) adipic acid dihydrazone (H2L1) is synthesized and characterized. With copper perchlorate as a catalytic oxidant, the ligand undergoes oxidative cyclisation and resulted in the formation of an unusual copper complex [Cu(L1a)2Cl]ClO4 (1), where L1a is 3-(2-pyridyl)triazolo[1,5-a]-pyridine. The Cu(II) complex was characterized physicochemically, while the molecular structure was confirmed by single crystal X- ray diffraction. In the complex cation, ...
