Honest review from pediatricians?
Hello everyone! I love kids but I've felt very discouraged about applying into peds because of it being an under paid, under appreciated specialty that I am told many people regret going into. I have considered many other specialties and then fellowshipping in peds. For example: peds derm, peds ENT, etc. Although I've found that I really love in-patient settings, and don't like out patient all that much. So for me doing peds derm is starting to sound much less appealing. I also love... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Icahn vs UCSF vs Duke vs GT
Hey, got a bunch of decisions back recently and wanted to come here for some comparison's between schools and get an outside perspective. For context I'm an aspiring child neurologist from the d.c. area iffy about weighing the benefits between going to a top school far away or staying in the area since i went to undergrad far from home and have been happy having my support system during my gap year. Icahn Pros - i love their focus on application of technology in medicine, worked in... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

CASPer Scenario For Discussion #33
You work for a company that provides entertainment for children's parties. Your boss asks you to wear a Native American costume as part of the entertainment show. You are not Native American and are uncomfortable doing so. How do you handle this situation with your boss? Your boss respects your decision, but you notice that they don't call you for work opportunities as frequently as before. Should you say anything? Why is it important to be culturally... Rank Help- Program Culture vs Clinical Exposure
Hi! I need some help sorting out two programs that are high on my rank list. For reference, I have a family... so I am also thinking about childcare, spouse's job market, moonlighting etc. I'm interested in academics and in CCM or CT fellowships. Part of me feels like I am weighing great culture/good exposure with good culture/great exposure if that makes sense. UNC Pros- Real family culture (lots of residents have kids). My partner and I love the research triangle area, and we... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Help with ECs
I am a sophomore and was looking for advice on what else I should be doing to make my med school application strong. I plan to apply in the 24-25 season. - I worked last year (about 200 hours) with kids in an inner city preschool to read books and do activities to improve their literacy and social skills. Loved it, but had to give up doing it this year as it clashed with my course and research schedule. - 2nd author at a poster presentation for a summer research project. Working in a... Is a work/life balance possible in peds?
Sorry for the clickbaity title, I just want to know if what I'm looking for is realistic. I'm a first year DO student and I'm looking for research opportunities this summer in fields I am interested in. I think my top choice right now is peds cause I love working with kids and the idea of making positive impressions on a person's life from a young age, but I think I'm starting to realize how important work/life balance is for me. Ideally, I would love to work 40 hours a week and maybe have... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Child Psychiatry (CAP) Fellowship position in NYC
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) fellowship position opening in NYC. This is open to adult psychiatry residents as well as peds/IM/fam med residents. Fellowship application can be completed without completing residency although at least one year of training is optimal. This is a great way to continue training and return to adult psychiatry/other residencies once fellowship is completed. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Child development book
Hi all, Any recommendations on a book about child development? I’m asking as a soon to be new parent and am looking for something that would compliment knowledge we’ve learned in psychiatry training (though I’m not child trained). Side question: My mother in law once said that my spouse and I couldn’t both be psychiatrists “because then we’d have weird kids.” It seems to me like psychiatrists would make great parents, but wonder what the Brain Trust’s opinions are. avoiding court
For those of you with more legal experience or forensically-trained, any guidance on avoiding court? I work in community mental health and see a lot of kids in state custody. In my state, when kids are removed from their parents, parental rights remain intact, often for 2+ years, and parents maintain decision making around psychiatric care and major surgeries. This means that I need to have good relationships with the foster parents and bio parents, and there are often many hearings while... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

OHSU (Oregon) vs Geisel (Dartmouth)
Some general info - not sure on specialty yet so keeping options open is important, want to eventually practice in Montana (home state), no financial aid info yet but will likely be minimal, I'm married and my wife and I are considering kids in medical school/residency, I have a dog which makes housing a little tricky OHSU Pros: 15 miles from my in-laws house which would be amazing for support and potential children Great school with all the opportunities of a large medical center Tuition...
