PSLF or private job?
Hi everyone! Was hoping someone could please help me and offer some sound advice. I have around ~500k in student loan debt (all direct federal loans eligible for PSLF forgiveness). I’m in my last year of fellowship (six total years of residency and fellowship), plus one year where I worked at an eligible employer. So that will be about 7 years total come next July. I was on REPAYE which just got switched to SAVE. As I look for general and/or child psychiatry jobs, I’m not sure what my best... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Animal Chiropractor
I’ve seen parents take their kids to chiropractors and it’s basically validated my belief that they are dangerous charlatans. Does this count as animal abuse? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How does one calculate volunteer hours?
I took a mission trip to Guatemala in which I spent a week in a village helping out kids. How do I calculate that into my volunteering hours? Do I just provide estimated hours? I am trying to be as thorough as possible. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Cluster A/Delusional DO/Paranoid Personality and modern psychiatry
Here's the question I got for you all. We health professionals shouldn't delve into politics with our patients. The problem being is that politics has for years entered the delusional zone. Lizard people, child molestation rings being held in pizza restaurants, Jewish Space Lasers, etc. So what are we supposed to do then? Ignore it? E.g. your patient comes in claiming there's Jewish Space Lasers and the election was stolen and there's proof cause bags of votes were found (no they... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pediatric Radiology Fellowship
Current resident planning on applying to peds rads. What would make my application/CV competitive for top fellowships, such as Boston Children's Hospital? Is it the same ol' thing when applying to residency programs (research, leadership experiences)? I felt I was moderately competitive applying to residency (20+ publications, decent Step scores, etc.). So far during residency, I continued doing more of the same, along with a few additional unique experiences. I understand that the sheer... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Doing Board Vitals over and over again. Currently at 82% correct, with around 50th percentile. Anyone know if this is a good indicator for passing? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

nontradional student looking for help on where to apply
Hi all looking for some advice on where to apply. I am a nontraditional student with a crazy story/route. Long story short, always wanted to go to med school, GPA has been up and down because my wife and I had our first child while I was a jr and second when I was a sr in undergrad which made me have to commute from WV to NY on a weekly basis at the time. I have 1d and 1f on my transcript from this (missed the final and got an F). Retook and got a's in both. c in orgo 1 retook and got an a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Marriage worth it?
Recently finished training. 35M. Going to be making more than I could ever imagine in salary. Never married, no kids. I'm enjoying the freedom of being single in a coastal city at this time. I'm starting to feel like marriage might be more of a financial risk/potentially mistake at this point. Playing the field has never been easier with dating apps. Am I missing out on life if I decide not to marry or have kids? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Lifestyle vs passion: psych or inpatient peds
Extremely down to the wire on this. Planning on maybe dual applying peds and psych (to do child psych). Have a passion for inpatient peds, but like child psych/adult psych enough to want to do it well. Peds pros: -Love inpatient work and the diversity of the cases -The kids often get better and the families for the most part are very grateful -Really great team environment, very positive environment overall -Always left in a good mood from the shift Peds cons: -Salary, have heard of... Parents with young children asking for preferential shifts
There was a post in the physician community Facebook group about an EM mom and dad wanting to only work 7 to 5 morning shifts and weekdays due to having childcare issues. They also worked in the same group. They also stated that for the last year one of the physicians was able to only work mornings for a year due to breast-feeding issues. Does anyone work in a shop that would seriously accommodate this? Does anyone have entitled colleagues that try to make you do x shift and guilt you... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I fill out the "other impactful experiences" essay?
Had a quick question about the "other impactful experiences" essay for AMCAS. I'm debating whether or fill out the other impactful experiences essay in AMCAS. 3 options spring to mind: 1. I could write about experiencing racism as a child (and beyond) and the effects it has had on my opportunities as well as how I have developed as a person. I would also discuss working with doctors of color in medicine and seeing how they responded to racism and it really impacting my desire to go into... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
