Recommendations for child psychiatry program that meet specific criteria?
Hello, I am interested in CAP programs that meet the following criteria: 1. All the inpatient and outpatient sites walking distance from each other 2. Great mentorship from involved faculty 3. No to minimal call/weekend hours Being located in a warm area is preferable not a requirement. It is more important that the first 3 criteria met, warm would be a bonus. Thanks very much! Doing taxes now, and looks like I'm gonna have to pay a handsome chunk again. I thought I did enough to lower it this year, but apparently not. Treating the asymptomatic flat foot
https://www.hmpgloballearningnetwork.com/site/podiatry/case-study/point-counterpoint-custom-molded-versus-prefabricated-orthotics-children If every pediatric 'flatfoot' that walked into my office got an orthotic, I'd def be a hell of a lot richer. Does anyone have any payers that are covering orthotics for asymptomatic flat foot issues? BCBS just asks for medical necessity and loose definition that they dont cover 'flat feet.' non-clinical volunteering questions
Hi, I am currently involved in a few non-clinical volunteering opportunities which I enjoy, and I am wondering if they are sufficient or if I should look into more opportunities. Big Brother Big Sisters (160hrs) - I am matched with a child who I hang out with every other week for four hours. I act as a mentor and a role model but also just as a friend. Prison Tutoring (100hr) - I am currently volunteering in a prison where I tutor prison inmates to help them get their GEDs. College... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Thinking about ortho
Hi, I thought I’d post on here to get peoples feedback who don’t know me and can be brutally honest with me. I don’t really like working as a GP and much prefer working with kids. So I’ve considered peds and ortho but I think I’ll be most happy with ortho. I’m considering applying to ortho residencies but I really don’t think my stats will match up to other applicants to even get me an interview. I understand I’ll have to apply to 30+ programs and apply broadly but I’ve included my stats... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

In kind of a funk about medicine and I'm not sure what to do
As a child, I was not explicitly encouraged to pursue medicine, but it was always instilled in me that having a moderate-high paying, stable career was extremely important. I developed an intellectual curiosity for medicine as my family had some laypeople medical books lying around, and I always thought I was academically capable of being premed and getting accepted to medical school though I felt humanities was easier for me than STEM, as I was a good - decent student in K-12 school. I went... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Interesting PRN job
Hi all, I am trying to find a job to supplement my fellowship income. I spoke to a recruiter today who described a job in which I would evaluate parents to see whether or not they can regain custody of their children. It is $600 / patient with evals taking 1 hour + supposedly 1 hour of paperwork. I have very little idea about what doing this would entail, but my initial impression is that it sounds risky. Eg, if I give the parent the okay and they harm their child, I could be liable for... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Cerebral oximetry and tetracycline
I learned the most amazing thing recently. The cerebral oximetry monitor rep from Medtronic told one of my partners that prior use of tetracycline makes the monitor read falsely low. Kids don't get tetracycline because it'll color their developing adult teeth gray. Apparently it colors bone too, and absorbs near infrared light. She took tetracycline as a teenager for acne. So she puts the monitor on her head and her brain sat reads 20%. So she told me this and I thought, hey I took... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do I have a chance?
Hello I’m 27 years old. Currently in community college for social work. I come from a rough childhood and poverty. I tried going to college after high school. But had a baby, my brother had cancer and COVID hit later in 2020. I amassed 9 Ws. 2 in 2016 right after high school. 3 in 2017 (dealing with child) and 2020 (COVID hit, got laid off ñ, and went on mission with military service for COVID relief.) all those Ws I had really good grades. I really like school. I decided to go back to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
