Rapid detection of varicella-zoster virus based on an immunochromatographic strip
In this study, VZV gE protein, expressed in CHO cells, was used to immunize BALB/c mice for the generation of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). For the first time, we developed a colloidal gold-based immunochromatographic strip for rapid detection of VZV using a pair of mAbs against gE protein. The limit of detection (LOD) of the strip was 30 ng mL-1 of purified VZV gE antigen, and it could specifically test VZV without cross-reactivity with Enterovirus 71 (EV-71), Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) and Herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2). The coincidence rate between the strip and commercial real-time PCR diagnostic kit was 100% using...

Causal association between inflammatory bowel disease and herpes virus infections: a two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization study
CONCLUSION: This study showed a suggestive causality for both CD-chickenpox and UC-mononucleosis, despite no associations reaching a statistical significance value after corrections for multiple testing. There was no evidence of a causal association between IBD and its two subtypes on herpes zoster.PMID:37465669 | PMC:PMC10351388 | DOI:10.3389/fimmu.2023.1203707 (Source: Herpes)

A study on knowledge, attitude, and vaccination behavior of herpes zoster vaccine among urban residents in selected areas of China
Conclusion: Low knowledge of herpes zoster and its vaccine, positive attitudes towards the preventive effects of herpes zoster and its vaccine, and extremely low vaccination rates among the urban population in China call for multiple measures to strengthen health education and vaccination recommendations for residents, especially for the elderly, low-education and low-income populations.PMID:37380410 | DOI:10.3760/cma.j.cn112338-20221125-00998 (Source: Herpes)

Stroke risk after varicella-zoster virus infection: a systematic review and meta-analysis
In conclusion, the risk of stroke increases after VZV infection, decreasing over time. Post-infection vascular inflammatory changes often occur in the middle cerebral artery and its branches, with a better prognosis in most patients and less frequent persistent progression.PMID:37219811 | DOI:10.1007/s13365-023-01144-0 (Source: Herpes)

Disseminated varicella-zoster virus infection in an aplastic anemia- paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria syndrome patient: A case report
CONCLUSION: AA-PNH syndrome patients treated with steroids and immunosuppressants are prone to various infections, considering that herpes virus infection with chickenpox and rash as the initial manifestations is characterized by rapid progress and often accompanied by serious complications. It is more difficult to distinguish it from AA-PNH syndrome with skin bleeding points. If it is not identified in time, it may delay the treatment opportunity, make the condition worse, and cause serious adverse prognosis. Therefore, clinicians need to pay attention to it.PMID:37153152 | PMC:PMC10154583 | DOI:10.3389/fcimb.2023.1163872 (Source: Herpes)

Comparison of epidemic characteristics and clinical manifestation of chickenpox between adults and children in Shandong Province from 2019 to 2021
Conclusions: There were differences between adult chickenpox and child chickenpox in terms of epidemic and clinical manifestations; the symptoms of child chickenpox were more serious than adult chickenpox. However, the adult chickenpox population is generally susceptible and lacks immune strategy protection, which calls for more attention.PMID:37147830 | DOI:10.3760/cma.j.cn112338-20220906-00766 (Source: Herpes)

Over 90% of Childhood BCG Vaccine-Induced Keloids in Japan Occur in Women
ConclusionTo our knowledge, this is the largest report in the literature on childhood-onset keloids. There was overall female predominance in childhood-onset keloids, and even more significant female predominance in BCG-induced keloids. (Source: Dermatology and Therapy)

Results of the first German external quality assessment scheme for the detection of monkeypox virus DNA
ConclusionThe EQA results show that laboratories performed well in detecting both MPXV and OPXV. However, Ct/Cq values should be interpreted with caution when conclusions are drawn about the viral load as long as metrological traceability is not granted. (Source: PLoS One)
