Assessing the impact of chickenpox and shingles vaccination using intermittent enhanced surveillance in Queensland, Australia
CONCLUSION: The VZV notification rate has increased over time in Queensland. Impact of chickenpox and shingles vaccines funded under National Immunisation Program is seen with a decline in notification rates among age-specific cohorts eligible to receive the vaccines under the program. Introduction of a second childhood dose chickenpox vaccine and more effective recombinant shingles vaccine may further improve the impact of the vaccination program.PMID:37980260 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.11.015 (Source: Vaccine)

Designing a polyvalent vaccine targeting multiple strains of varicella zoster virus using integrated bioinformatics approaches
The Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) presents a global health challenge due to its dual manifestations of chickenpox and shingles. Despite vaccination efforts, incomplete coverage, and waning immunity lead to recurrent infections, especially in aging and immunocompromised individuals. Existing vaccines prevent chickenpox but can trigger the reactivation of shingles. To address these limitations, we propose a polyvalent multiepitope subunit vaccine targeting key envelope glycoproteins of VZV. Through bioinformatics approaches, we selected six glycoproteins that are crucial for viral infection. Epitope mapping led to the identif...

Epidemiology of communicable diseases in Jazan region: Situational assessment, risk characterization, and evaluation of prevention and control programs outcomes
Saudi Med J. 2023 Nov;44(11):1073-1084. doi: 10.15537/smj.2023.44.11.20230269.ABSTRACTThe incidence of communicable diseases has witnessed a reduction in Saudi Arabia during the last 4 decades. Nonetheless, the Jazan region has been indicated as one of the main regions affected by various communicable conditions. The geographical, socioeconomic, and climate characteristics of Jazan have made it vulnerable to communicable and vector-borne diseases. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the epidemiology of communicable diseases in Jazan, Saudi Arabia. This review also gives a historical description of infec...
