Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 2167: Predictors for Survival of Patients with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of Unknown Primary in the Head and Neck Region
Conclusions: Despite obvious differences, CUPHNSCC shares similarities in risk profile with OPSCC. However, the detection of p16 alone appears to be more suitable for the classification of CUPHNSCC than for OPSCC and, in combination with ECOG, allows stratification into three risk groups. In the future, additional factors besides p16 and ECOG may become important in larger studies or cases with special risk profiles. (Source: Cancers)

Fibroblast Activation Protein Inhibitor PET Imaging in Head and Neck Cancer
68Ga-fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (FAPI)-PET is highly promising for head and neck cancers including oral squamous cell carcinomas, hypopharynx carcinomas, adenoid cystic carcinomas, thyroid cancer, and cervical cancer of unknown primary. For oral squamous cell carcinomas, hypopharynx carcinomas, and adenoid cystic carcinomas, 68Ga-FAPI-PET has high potential for the assessment of primary tumors with impact on radiotherapy planning. 68Ga-FAPI-PET can be applied for staging of metastasized thyroid carcinomas. To date, the data on cervical cancer of unknown primary are sparse but highly interesting as 68Ga-FAPI-PE...

Biopsy-proven first dose of oxaliplatin-induced acute tubular necrosis leading to end-stage renal failure: a case report
Oxaliplatin is an anticancer therapy for pancreatic, gastric, and colorectal cancers. It is also used in patients with carcinomas of unknown primary sites. Oxaliplatin is associated with less frequent renal dy... (Source: BMC Nephrology)

Take the Road Less Treated
Consideration of ultrasound-guided core biopsy after initial negative fine needle aspiration (FNA) or upfront exam under anesthesia (EUA) for this initially unknown primary could have contributed to diagnosis in lieu of requiring a neck dissection. With neck disease known, we view American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) seventh edition staging N2a disease and focal extranodal extension (ENE) as adverse pathology requiring adjuvant radiation therapy. We favor proceeding with definitive radiation therapy which may provide improved swallowing outcomes compared with transoral robotic surgery (TORS) as seen in the ORATOR (A P...

Malignant transformation of a branchial cleft cyst
We present the case of a 69-year-old woman, who presented with a swelling under the left side of the mandible. After diagnostic workup, fine-needle aspiration biopsy raised the suspicion of a cystic squamous cell carcinoma metastasis, therefore we performed panendoscopy and modified radical neck dissection. The pathological examination confirmed branchial cleft cyst carcinoma. After surgery, the patient received adjuvant radiation and chemotherapy. During the case workup, we present the difficulties of the diagnostic process, differential diagnostic problems, and the review of the international literature. In the case of a...
