Assessment of cardiovascular risk and social framework of Cape Verdean university students studying in Portugal
ConclusionCape Verdean university students in Portugal (CV-PT) have higher albuminuria, BP and PWV values than PT-PT and CV-CV students, associated with less healthy lifestyles, higher cardiovascular risk and worse socioeconomic conditions. The higher cardiovascular risk in these African immigrants means that it is important to implement measures to address modifiable risk factors, to improve integration and to promote healthy lifestyles.ResumoIntroduçãoO fenómeno de migração de populações africanas para a Europa coloca problemas de adaptação que podem propiciar um aumento do risco cardiovascular (CVas). É numero...

Epidemiology of the Zika Virus Outbreak in the Cabo Verde Islands, West Africa
Conclusions With an AR ranging from 42% to 61%, our findings suggest that between ~221,000 to ~329,000 people may have been infected with ZIKV during the recent outbreak in Cabo Verde. Was the viral lineage that caused this large outbreak in Cabo Verde introduced from the Americas or from another African country? A rapid assessment of the global air travel network suggests the presence of similar ecologies and direct air travel connections between the northeast of Brazil and Santiago island where most cases were observed. Given the timing of the epidemic (Figure 1a) and the high number of travellers visiting Cabo Verde fro...

Medical Training Experience and Expectations Regarding Future Medical Practice of Medical Students at the University of Cape Verde.
CONCLUSION: Cape Verde is pursuing a bold strategy to deal with a shortage of medical doctors. The problems experienced by medical students provide an important insight to help the new medical school to provide a better learning environment for students. The fact that students are not sure about their future area of specialization is an opportunity to guide them towards the areas of the health system with pressing needs. The current feminization of the medical workforce will be sustained with the profile of the present intake, hence the need to take this into account in workforce planning. PMID: 29268063 [PubMe...
