IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 16791: The Nutrition Transition and the Double Burden of Malnutrition in Sub-Saharan African Countries: How Do These Countries Compare with the Recommended LANCET COMMISSION Global Diet?
Conclusions: SSA countries are in different stages of the nutrition transition. By superimposing clusters generated using macronutrient intake values on a map of the climatic regions in Africa, one can clearly see the importance of climate on the availability of food and food intake patterns. Climate change presents a great challenge to healthy eating, as the link between climate regions and diets is illustrated. (Source: International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health)

A next generation targeted amplicon sequencing method to screen for insecticide resistance mutations in < i > Aedes aegypti < /i > populations reveals a < i > rdl < /i > mutation in mosquitoes from Cabo Verde
by Emma L. Collins, Jody E. Phelan, Magdalena Hubner, Anton Spadar, Monica Campos, Daniel Ward, Holly Acford-Palmer, Ana Rita Gomes, Keily Silva, Lara Ferrero Gomez, Taane G. Clark, Susana CampinoAedes mosquito vectors transmit many viruses of global health concern, including dengue, chikungunya and Zika. These vector-borne viral diseases have a limited number of treatment options, and vaccines vary in their effectiveness. Consequently, integrated vector management is a primary strategy for disease control. However, the increasing emergence and spread of insecticide resistance is threatening the efficacy of vector control ...

Enhanced mosquito vectorial capacity underlies the Cape Verde Zika epidemic
by Noah H. Rose, St éphanie Dabo, Silvânia da Veiga Leal, Massamba Sylla, Cheikh T. Diagne, Oumar Faye, Ousmane Faye, Amadou A. Sall, Carolyn S. McBride, Louis Lambrechts The explosive emergence of Zika virus (ZIKV) across the Pacific and Americas since 2007 was associated with hundreds of thousands of human cases and severe outcomes, including congenital microcephaly caused by ZIKV infection during pregnancy. Although ZIKV was first isolated in Uganda, Africa has so far been exempt from large-scale ZIKV epidemics, despite widespread susceptibility among African human populations. A possible explanation for this pattern...

Ethnic disparities in liver fat accumulation in school-aged children
CONCLUSIONS: Prevalence of liver fat accumulation and NAFLD differs between ethnic subgroups living in the Netherlands, especially for those with a Turkish background. Early-life factors have a strong influence on these associations and may hold clues for future preventive strategies.PMID:35785476 | DOI:10.1002/oby.23478 (Source: Obesity)
