Integrating network pharmacology and experimental verification to explore the pharmacological mechanisms of asparagus against polycystic ovary syndrome
CONCLUSION: The therapeutic effect of ASP on PCOS is mainly achieved by targeting PRKCA through the 7 active components of ASP. Mechanistically, ASP alleviated the course of PCOS through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory effects, and PRKCA was its potential target.PMID:37393270 | PMC:PMC10315040 | DOI:10.1186/s13048-023-01210-5 (Source: Cell Research)

Enzyme Inhibition and Antioxidant Activities of Asparagus officinalis L. and Analysis of Its Phytochemical Content by LC/MS/MS
Chem Biodivers. 2023 Apr 25:e202201231. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202201231. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the study, water, ethanol, methanol, dichloromethane, and acetone extracts of Asparagus officinalis L. were obtained by maceration. DPPH⋅, ABTS⋅+ , FRAP, and CUPRAC methods determined the antioxidant capacities of all extracts. Moreover, the in vitro effects of extracts on acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), carbonic anhydrase (CA)-I, CA-II and α-Glycosidase were investigated. At a 10 μg/ml concentration, the extract with the highest Fe3+ reduction capacity was ethanol (AE), and the extract wit...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 3435: Mechanistic Understanding of Tyrosinase Inhibition by Polymeric Proanthocyanidins from Acacia confusa Stem Bark and Their Effect on the Browning Resistance of Fresh-Cut Asparagus Lettuce
In this study, the capacity of Acacia confusa stem bark proanthocyanidins (ASBPs) to inhibit tyrosinase activity was evaluated. ASBPs were shown to be a high-potential inhibitor of tyrosinase with IC50 values of 92.49 ± 4.70 and 61.74 ± 8.93 μg/mL when using L-tyrosine and L-DOPA as the substrate, respectively. The structural elucidation performed with UV-vis, FT-IR spectroscopy, ESI-MS and thiolysis coupled to HPLC-ESI-MS suggested that ASBPs had structural heterogeneity in monomer units and interflavan linkages and consisted mainly of procyanidins dominant with B-type linkages. To...

Unravelling the seasonal dynamics of the metabolome of white asparagus spears using untargeted metabolomics
ConclusionThe dynamics of the white asparagus metabolome is influenced by a complex relationship between the onset of spear development, the moment of harvest and the genetic background. The typical perceived asparagus flavour profile is unlikely to be significantly affected by these dynamics. (Source: Metabolomics)

AoSAP8-P encoding A20 and/or AN1 type zinc finger protein in Asparagus officinalis L. improving stress tolerance in transgenic Nicotiana sylvestris
Gene. 2023 Feb 11:147284. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2023.147284. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe full length CDS of an A20 and AN1 type zinc finger gene (named AoSAP8-P), located nearby the male specific Y chromosome (MSY) region of Asparagus officinalis (garden asparagus) was amplified by RT-PCR from purple passion. This gene, predicted as the stress associated protein (SAPs) gene families, encodes 172 amino acids with multiple cis elements including light, stress response box, MYB and ERF binding sites on its promoter. To analyze its function, the gene expression of different organs in different asparagus gender were analyze...
