Asparagus Polysaccharide Suppresses the Migration, Invasion, and Angiogenesis of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cells Partly by Targeting the HIF-1 α/VEGF Signalling Pathway In Vitro.
In conclusion, our results suggest that ASP suppresses the migration, invasion, and angiogenesis of HCC cells partly via inhibiting the HIF-1α/VEGF signalling pathway. PMID: 31239858 [PubMed] (Source: Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine)

Determination of In Vitro Antimicrobial Activity of Five Sri Lankan Medicinal Plants against Selected Human Pathogenic Bacteria.
Conclusions: It can be concluded that E. divaricata and V. zizanioides crude ethanol, aqueous, and hexane extracts exhibited significant in vitro antibacterial activity against S. aureus, and the active compounds isolated from them can be potential sources for the synthesis of antibacterial drugs. Enzyme-Treated Asparagus Extract Prevents'Hydrogen Peroxide-Induced Pro-Inflammatory Responses by Suppressing p65 Nuclear Translocation in Skin L929 Fibroblasts.
Authors: Shirato K, Takanari J, Sakurai T, Ogasawara J, Imaizumi K, Ohno H Abstract We recently reported that enzyme-treated asparagus extract (ETAS) attenuates hydrogen peroxide (H(2)0(2))-stimulated matrix metalloproteinase-9 expression in skin fibroblast L929 cells. To further elucidate the anti-aging effects of ETAS on skin, we examined whether ETAS has preventive effects on H202-induced pro-inflammatory responses of skin fibroblasts. H(2)0(2) induced Ser536 phosphorylation and nuclear accumulation of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) p65, and increased the mRNA levels .of interleukin-12α (IL-12α)-and indu...

In vitro Antigonorrhea Activity of the Aerial Part of Asparagus suaveolens n-Hexane Fraction and Palmitone as a Bioactive Compound.
Authors: Olivier MT, Muganza FM, Shai LJ, Gololo SS Abstract Asparagus suaveolens is a medicinal plant used in Lesotho and South Africa to treat epilepsy and gonorrhea. The current investigation identifies the compound responsible for the antiepileptic and antimicrobial properties as palmitone which showed antigonorrhea activities against WHO 2008 Neisseria gonorrhea F and 0 strains more than the standard used, gentamicin. These results support the traditional use of A. suaveolens for treatment of gonorrhea and epilepsy since palmitone is known as an anticonvulsant agent. This is the first study indicating...
