Simultaneous detection of patulin and ochratoxin A based on enhanced dual-color AuNCs modified aptamers in apple juice
Talanta. 2023 Jul 13;266(Pt 1):124949. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2023.124949. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPatulin (PAT) and ochratoxin A (OTA) are the two main mycotoxins present in apples. Herein, a sensitive aptasensor for simultaneous detection of PAT and ochratoxin OTA was developed. Dual-color gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) with enhanced fluorescence properties were synthesized and employed as fluorescence amplifiers. Two separated fluorescence peaks at 650 nm and 530 nm were monitored simultaneously by employing single excitation (405 nm), corresponding to the aptamer probes of Cys@BSA-AuNCs-AptPAT and Arg@ATT-AuNCs-AptOTA...

Electrochemiluminescence enhanced by isolating ACQphores in imine-linked covalent organic framework for organophosphorus pesticide assay
Talanta. 2023 Jul 19;266(Pt 1):124964. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2023.124964. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMost of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are non or weakly emissive due to either the molecular thermal motion-mediated energy dissipation or the aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) effect. Herein, we synthesize an imine-linked COF (TFPPy-TPh-COF) with high electrochemiluminescence (ECL) emission and the capability of eliminating the ACQ effect and further construct an ECL sensor for malathion detection. The imine-linked COF is obtained by the condensation reaction of (1,1':3',1″-terphenyl)-4,4″-diamine (TPh) and 1...

Apples and oranges? A comparison of BEST-CLI to BASIL-2
Chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) is an end-stage manifestation of peripheral atherosclerosis posing a high risk for limb loss and mortality. Effective revascularization is a cornerstone of limb preservation in patients with CLTI. Evolving technologies, provider bias, and a lack of high-quality evidence have fueled ongoing debate about the optimal approach. Recently the top-line results of the long-awaited Best Endovascular versus Best Surgical Therapy for Patients with Critical Limb Ischemia (BEST-CLI) and Bypass versus Angioplasty in Severe Ischaemia of the Leg-2 (BASIL-2) randomized clinical trials (RCTs) have be...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 5494: Apple Pomace Compositional Data Highlighting the Proportional Contribution of Polymeric Procyanidins
This study quantified the polymeric procyanidins in apple pomace extracts using a rapid, methyl-cellulose precipitation (MCP) approach for the first time. In addition, a non-targeted metabolomics approach was applied to determine the most abundant phenolic classes present. Polymeric procyanidins were found to be the most abundant type of polyphenol in apple pomace extracts and were generally oligomeric in nature. Multivariate statistical analysis revealed that the ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) was most strongly correlated with the polymeric procyanidin concentration. Noting that polymeric procyanidins may not cr...

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 6476: A Novel Approach for Apple Freshness Prediction Based on Gas Sensor Array and Optimized Neural Network
Wenbin Du Apple is an important cash crop in China, and the prediction of its freshness can effectively reduce its storage risk and avoid economic loss. The change in the concentration of odor information such as ethylene, carbon dioxide, and ethanol emitted during apple storage is an important feature to characterize the freshness of apples. In order to accurately predict the freshness level of apples, an electronic nose system based on a gas sensor array and wireless transmission module is designed, and a neural network prediction model using an improved Sparrow Search Algorithm (SSA) based on chaotic sequence (Tent)...

All-naturally structured tough, ultrathin, and washable dual-use composite for fruits preservation with high biosafety evaluation
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Jul 13:125828. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.125828. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis work develops a sustainable and global strategy to enhance fruit preservation efficacy. The dual-use composite coating or film comprises silk fibroin/cellulose nanocrystals (SF/CNC) with superior ductility through a synergistic plasticizing effect of glycerol and natural aloe-emodin powder (AE) as antimicrobial agents. To confirm our strategy, two common fruit preservation materials (edible surface coating-SCA-CS; packaging film-SCA-PF) and five different fruits (strawberries, bananas, apples, blueberries, and g...

Phthalates, adipates, BPA, and pesticides in school meals
CONCLUSIONS: Overall pesticides and phthalate levels in school meals are low and BPA was not detected. However, this study suggests that manufacturers may be changing to less studied plasticizers such as DEHA. More studies should examine the impact of DEHA on human health, particularly among children. As schools transition back from the COVID-19 pandemic, foods packaged in plastic should be minimized where possible. Overall, school meals remain one of the healthiest options for children and policies that support on site cooking can further strengthen the quality of school meals.PMID:37442262 | DOI:10.1016/j.envres.2023.116...
