A case of primary pleural epithelioid hemangioendothelioma achieving stable disease with paclitaxel treatment: A case report and literature review
Pleural epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is exceptionally rare, and the prognosis for pleural EHE is grim, typically resulting in a survival of less than 1 year. In this case report, we present the case of a 45-year-old woman who endured 1 month of right-sided pleuritic chest pain, was diagnosed with right pleural EHE, and achieved an 11-month progression-free survival following paclitaxel treatment. AbstractEpithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a rare vascular neoplasm with a clinical behaviour that falls between a benign hemangioma and a high-grade angiosarcoma. Pleural EHE is exceptionally rare, and its progno...

Clinical recommendations for treatment of localized angiosarcoma: A consensus paper by the Italian Sarcoma Group
Angiosarcoma (AS) is a rare and aggressive vascular sarcoma. The current European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for the treatment of sarcomas apply to AS as well. However, AS aggressiveness and diverse tumor presentations differentiate it from other sarcomas, impacting clinical decisions. This is especially relevant in the context of localized disease, where considerations about the extent of surgery, the use of radiation therapy (RT), and the indication for neoadjuvant/adjuvant chemotherapy may vary. Unusual presentation and delayed diagnosis of cardiac angiosarcoma
Primary cardiac angiosarcomas are very rare and present aggressively with high rates of metastasis. Given the poor prognosis, particularly once disease has spread, early diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatme... (Source: Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery)

Epithelioid angiosarcoma of the calf: a case report of an atypical imaging appearance
AbstractAngiosarcoma is an uncommon cause of soft tissue malignancy, accounting for approximately 2% of all soft tissue sarcomas. Of these, epithelioid angiosarcoma represents a morphologic subtype, where the malignant endothelial cells demonstrate a predominantly or exclusively epithelioid appearance. Overall, epithelioid angiosarcoma shares similar imaging characteristics to conventional angiosarcoma including a T1 hypointense to isointense and T2 hyperintense mass, which demonstrates avid enhancement, serpentine feeding vessels, and overlying skin thickening on MRI. The case herein describes a case of epithelioid angios...

Radiation-Induced Breast Angiosarcoma: Updates on a Rare Disease
AbstractPurpose of ReviewAlthough rare, breast angiosarcoma imparts poor outcomes relative to other breast malignancies. Here, we review the current literature focusing on radiation-induced angiosarcoma of the breast (RIA), a subset of secondary breast angiosarcoma.Recent FindingsThe risk of developing RIA increases with time after radiation therapy, and incidence is expected to increase. Cross-sectional imaging with MRI or CT has a higher sensitivity for RIA detection than ultrasound and mammography studies. The clinical outcomes of RIA are improving with the use of wide resections and systemic chemotherapy, with up to an...

Intercalary Resection of the Tibia for Primary Bone Tumors: Are Vascularized Fibula Autografts With or Without Allografts a Durable Reconstruction?
CONCLUSION: VFG, alone or combined with an allograft, could be considered in reconstructing a lower extremity after intercalary resections of the tibia for primary bone tumors, and it avoids the use of a large endoprosthesis. However, this procedure was associated with frequent, often severe complications during the first postoperative years and complication-free survival of 58% at 5 years. Nearly 10% of patients ultimately had an amputation. For patients whose reconstruction succeeded, the technique provides a durable reconstruction with good MSTS scores, and we believe it is useful for active patients with long life expe...

Renal pelvis metastasis following surgery for breast angiosarcoma: a case report and literature review
This article reports the medical records of a patient diagnosed with breast angiosarcoma who underwent radical mastectomy and was found to have multiple lung metastases 3 years after surgery and renal pelvic metastasis 4 years after surgery. The patient underwent robot-assisted laparoscopic radical nephroureterectomy and sleeve resection of the intramural segment of the ureter, and postoperative pathology and immunohistochemical staining confirmed the diagnosis of renal pelvic metastasis of breast angiosarcoma. The patient received anlotinib for lung metastases following surgery and was followed up for 4 months after surge...

Primary thoracic aorta angiosarcoma presenting with thromboembolism and progressive claudication despite anticoagulation
AbstractPrimary aortic angiosarcomas (PAA) are rare angiosarcomas, frequently diagnosed in advanced stages due to initial misdiagnosis. This case describes a 66-year-old woman, initially presenting with a distal thoracic aorta thrombus and symptomatic bilateral popliteal emboli. Despite initial management and therapeutic anticoagulation, she experienced progressive lower limb claudication and 12  months following initial presentation she re-presented with an obstructing distal thoracic aorta mass and metastatic disease. Histopathology confirmed metastatic epithelioid angiosarcoma. Despite urgent palliative radiotherapy, ...

P53 Overexpression May Represent an Early Marker of Clinicopathologic Progression in Vasculogenic Mesenchymal Lesions of Germ Cell Tumor Origin
AbstractVasculogenic mesenchymal lesions (VMLs) of germ cell tumor origin are thought to originate in postpubertal-type yolk sac tumor components  and include a spectrum of lesions from teratoma with vasculogenic stroma (TVS), to low and high-grade vasculogenic mesenchymal tumors (VMTs). VMLs exhibit rudimentary to well-developed neoplastic vessels within primitive mesenchyme, being considered a neoplastic reiteration of embryonic vasculogen esis in the splanchnic mesoderm of the yolk sac. They occur in patients with primary mediastinal germ cell tumors after chemotherapy, and a subset progresses to “somatic-type” sar...

Misdiagnosis of cutaneous epithelioid angiosarcoma as diabetic foot ulcer: a case study
CONCLUSION: Physicians should be aware of this rare presentation of cutaneous AS. The authors of the current report advise regular clinical reassessment of chronic ulcers and biopsies of nonhealing wounds, even when adequate wound treatment has been administered, with the goal of identifying ulcerated skin malignancies and preventing delay in providing appropriate treatment.PMID:38479430 (Source: Wounds)
