Prevalence, Complications, and Risk Factors of Falls and Fear of Falling Among Older Adults; Based on Ardakan Cohort Study on Aging (ACSA)
CONCLUSION: This study showed that about one-fifth of those over 50 in Iran have experienced at least one fall within a year. Self-expressed imbalance, FOF, and urinary incontinence were the most prominent risk factors. Due to resulting in hospitalization and fractures, falls also lead to fear of falling and the associated limitation of activities.PMID:38162387 | PMC:PMC10757572 | DOI:10.22037/aaem.v12i1.2084 (Source: Accident and Emergency Nursing)

Efficacy observation of long-time needle retaining at Baihui (GV20) combined with multidirectional point-toward-point needle insertion with needle shaking at Fengchi (GB20) for cervical vertigo
ConclusionLong-time needle retaining at Baihui (GV20) combined with multidirectional point-toward-point needle insertion with needle shaking at Fengchi (GB20) can significantly reduce the clinical symptoms of CV and regulate the blood flow rate of vertebrobasilar arteries bidirectionally, and thus is an effective therapy for CV. Gastrodin alleviates premature senescence of vascular endothelial cells by enhancing the Nrf2/HO-1 signalling pathway
In conclusion, GAS ameliorated H2 O2 -induced cellular senescence and enhanced cell proliferation and migration by enhancing Nrf2/HO-1 signalling in HUVECs. These findings of our study expanded the understanding of GAS pharmacology and suggested that GAS may offer a potential therapeutic agent for stroke.PMID:38146239 | DOI:10.1111/jcmm.18089 (Source: J Cell Mol Med)

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 22: Rare Deletions or Large Duplications Contribute to Genetic Variation in Patients with Severe Tinnitus and Meniere Disease
In this study, we analyzed exome sequencing data from 310 MD Spanish patients and selected 75 patients with severe tinnitus based on a Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) score > 68. Three rare deletions were identified in two unrelated individuals overlapping the ERBB3 gene in the positions: NC_000012.12:g.56100028_56100172del, NC_000012.12:g.56100243_56101058del, and NC_000012.12:g.56101359_56101526del. Moreover, an ultra-rare large duplication was found covering the AP4M1, COPS6, MCM7, TAF6, MIR106B, MIR25, and MIR93 genes in another two patients in the NC_000007.14:g.100089053_100112257dup region. All the codi...

The effectiveness of the modified Epley maneuver for the treatment of posterior semicircular canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo
ConclusionThe modified Epley maneuver is more effective than the traditional Epley maneuver in improving the single repositioning success rate and reducing the canal switching rate for PC-BPPV. This study provides a new option for the treatment of BPPV. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Prophylactic treatments for vestibular migraine: a systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials
Conclusion: VPA and flunarizine reduced the frequency of vertigo and improved DHI, but they had unfavorable tolerability. The effects of metoprolol on vertigo require further study. Given the low certainty and limited sample, additional head-to-head RCTs are warranted to further confirm efficacy.Systematic Review Registration:https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/; Identifier CRD42023422258.
