Successful prevention of organic solvent induced disorders: history and lessons
In this discussion paper, we describe the history of the science and societal action resulting in the mitigation of neurotoxic disorders from exposure to organic solvents at the workplaces in Sweden. When alkyd paints were introduced in large scale in construction painting in the 1960s and 1970s, Scandinavian unions voiced increasing concern as members reported symptoms like headache and vertigo, supported by participatory studies and case studies. Although acute and chronic neurotoxic effects were established for some specific solvents such as carbon disulphide, this was not the case for those used in the new paints. Unio...

Partial Treatment During BPPV Diagnostic Maneuvers
This study examines a case of lateral canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) where the sequence of diagnostic positional maneuvers may have influenced the release of some canaliths into the utricle. Partial treatment during BPPV diagnostic maneuvers may complicate side identification during supine roll test, especially in canalolithiasis cases. A Systematic Review on Hearing and Balance in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease with and Without Hemodialysis
ConclusionCKD patients, particularly those undergoing hemodialysis, face a higher risk of hearing loss, tinnitus, and vestibular complaints. Performing otoacoustic emissions and vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials along with PTA on CKD patients, regardless of the disease stage is recommended to more effective management of audiovestibular complaints in these population. Usefulness of thermography for differentiating Wallenberg's syndrome from noncentral vertigo in the acute phase
This study used thermography to measure the BST of patients with NCV and acute WS to determine the effectiveness of BST to differentiate between the conditions. Forty-eight consecutive patients diagnosed with NCV whose BST was measured using thermography during a hospital visit or admission were enrolled. The left and right BST of four sites (face, trunk, and upper and lower limbs) were measured and compared with obtained BST of nine patients with WS.RESULTS: Twenty-two patients had lateral differences in BST ≥ 0.5°C, three with ≥1.5°C, and none with ≥2.5°C. Only one patient with NCV had lateral differences in BST...

Clinical Evaluation of Curative Effect of SRM-IV Treatment System for Treating Refractory Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
Conclusions: Most patients with refractory BPPV were cured after canalith repositioning procedure. The causes of intractability might involve many different aspects. Longer disease history and poor otolith mobility are also one of the reasons for this difficulty.PMID:38456437 | DOI:10.1177/01455613241233096 (Source: Ear, Nose and Throat Journal)

Evaluation of the reliability and validity of the upright head roll test for lateral semicircular canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo
CONCLUSION: UHRT is a reliable test for diagnosing LSC-BPPV and distinguishing subtypes. However, UHRT has a limitation in discriminating the affected side owing to a weaker intensity of nystagmus than SHRT.PMID:38457163 | DOI:10.3233/VES-230127 (Source: Journal of Vestibular Research: Equilibrium and Orientation)
