Focused Update on Migraine and Vertigo Comorbidity
AbstractPurpose of ReviewTo provide an update on comorbidity of vestibular symptoms and migraine.Recent FindingsMultisensory processing and integration is a key concept for understanding mixed presentation of migraine and vestibular symptoms. Here, we discuss how vestibular migraine should be distinguished from a secondary migraine phenomenon in which migraine symptoms may coincide with or triggered by another vestibular disorder. We also have some updates on the diagnostic criteria of vestibular migraine, its pathophysiology, and common approaches used for its treatment.SummaryAs a common clinical presentation of migraine...

The SaVe project - Sarcopenia and Vertigo in aging patients with colorectal cancer: A study protocol for three randomized controlled trials
DISCUSSION: Trial enrollment began in April 2023 and is the first trial to evaluate reasons for dizziness, decline in walking balance, and sarcopenia in older patients receiving chemotherapy. The trial will provide new and valuable knowledge in how to assess, manage, and prevent dizziness, decline in walking balance, and sarcopenia in older patients with colorectal cancer.TRIAL REGISTRATION: The Regional Ethics Committee (j.nr. High-Frequency Audiovestibular Dysfunction in Long-Standing Diabetes Mellitus: Insights from a Cross-Sectional Study
This study investigates audiovestibular dysfunction in individuals with long-standing diabetes mellitus (DM). A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 100 patients (DM for  ≥ 10 years) at the Department of E.N.T. in Prakash Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Sangli, Maharashtra. A mean age of 43.09 years among patients, with 64% male and 36% female participants. Hearing loss was the most common complaint, affecting 46% of subjects, followed by vertigo in 23%. Pure tone audiometry revealed that 34% of patients had sensorineural hearing loss, with varying degrees of severity. Vestibular dysfunction wa...

Anterior Canal BPPV- A Rare Form of Vertical Canaloliathiasis: Series of 11 Cases
AbstractThe most common cause of peripheral vertigo is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) primarily due to involvement of posterior semicircular canal. BPPV due to anterior canal is rare entity. This is a retrospective study, in which data of 628 patients who underwent vertigo test were analyzed. Amongst which 354 were patients of BPPV. It was found that 305 patients had posterior canal BPPV, 18 patients had lateral canal BPPV and 11 patients had anterior canal BPPV. The VNG data of 11 patients with anterior canal BPPV along with their treatment outcomes was analyzed. Of the eleven patients of anterior canal BPPV,...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1466: Long-Term Surgical Outcome of Class A and B Tympanomastoid Paragangliomas
Conclusions: Tympanomastoid PGL represents the most common neoplasm of the middle ear space. The most frequent presenting symptoms include pulsatile tinnitus and hearing loss, whereas the presence of retrotympanic mass was evident in all cases at the time of initial otoscopic evaluation. Proper documentation of facial function and audiometric evaluation are crucial elements of preoperative workup. The most preferred preoperative radiologic examination is high-resolution computer tomography (HRCT), whereas magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with or without gadolinium enhancement is reserved for cases with a dilemma of carotid...

Procedural skills workshops for primary care physicians in Israel: a comprehensive analysis
CONCLUSION: procedural skills workshops may expand PCPs' therapeutic arsenal, thus empowering PCPs and providing more comprehensive care for patients. Some manual skills, such as dry needling, soft tissue injections, and the Epley maneuver, were more likely to be used by participants than other skills, such as spirometry and soft tissue injections.PMID:38600544 | PMC:PMC11008032 | DOI:10.1186/s12909-024-05381-7 (Source: Pain Physician)

Increased report completeness and satisfaction with structured neurotological reporting in the interdisciplinary assessment of vertigo
CONCLUSION: Neurotological SRs enable a significantly increased report completeness with higher referrer satisfaction in the context of interdisciplinary assessment of vertigo. Furthermore, SRs are particularly suitable for scientific data analysis, especially in the context of big data analyses.PMID:38592481 | DOI:10.1007/s00106-024-01464-5 (Source: HNO)

Diagnosis of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo Using a Questionnaire in a Hospital Based Rural Setting in India
AbstractTo develop and validate a simple questionnaire for the diagnosis of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) and also to  accurately predict the involved side in BPPV. Patients (N = 148) who presented with dizziness to the ENT department were asked to fill out a questionnaire which was formulated to diagnose BPPV and the affected side. Five questions were part of the questionnaire. The fifth question was set to a scertain the affected side in BPPV. All the patients underwent a detailed neuro-otological examination and the findings were noted. The findings of the examination were correlated with the questio...
