Private Business of Radiation Oncology Forum
We are starting a private forum to have focused discussion about business of radiation oncology and, potentially, other topics related to Rad Onc that should ideally be discussed behind closed doors. There will be a higher standard for discourse in that forum than there is in this one and general dickishness will be punished with removal much more swiftly at the discretion of myself or @Neuronix . If you would like to participate, you must meet the following criteria: 1) Radiation... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

UICOM v. Loyola
Hello! I know it's late to talk about this but since I was fortunate to be accepted by two Illinois schools, UICOM and Loyola, I want to learn some perspectives from everyone! I wish to specialize in Derm, Cardiology, or Radiology in the future. Which school will be a better fit? I enjoyed my interview days at each school and everyone seems to be very cool during my second look visits. The caveat is I was assigned to the Peoria campus for UICOM whereas Loyola would be in Maywood/Chicago. I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Glad to be alive, but I need some help.
I have a bit of a unique situation, and I would like some guidance moving forward with respect to applying this cycle. I began my college career as a nursing major, and transferred to Biology after working in the hospital as a tech for a period of time. I realized rather late into my college career that the autonomy, and intellectual stimulation of becoming a physician was what I would rather be doing. Unfortunately, by the time I had realized this, I was already a senior in undergraduate... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

UMich vs Cornell
Hi everyone! I am really lucky to be deciding between two great schools! I unfortunately was not able to attend second-look for either. Also, I don't have a particular specialty I am focused on. Some things they have in common: p/f pre-clinical, h/hp/p/f clinical, and AOA. Both schools also encourage students to have a pathway or concentration with a central research project. UMich (full tuition scholarship + aid, 80 - 100k in loans total) Pros There is a lot of flexibility... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Weekend/Holiday Externships?
Does anyone know if there are any OMFS programs that allow externs to come on weekends or holidays? Most programs I have asked said no, and that they only offer Monday - Friday externships. I have a couple of long weekends coming up though like Thursday - Monday off for example, so if anyone knows of any programs that are cool with that please let me know! Custom MCAT Study Plan
Hi everyone! Not sure if this kind of post is allowed here, so please excuse the misstep if not. I've been MCAT tutoring for a few years, and always help my students make a spreadsheet schedule of exactly what they should be completing each day based on their strengths/weaknesses, timing, and resources available. As someone with ADHD, I've found that having a thorough outline is very helpful for keeping focused, and eliminating some of the stress that comes from general *I could always be... SUNY Upstate vs SUNY Downstate
I'm sure this has been done before, and they're two very different schools. For context, I would love to be in NYC not just for med school but for residency and beyond. So I have been leaning Downstate for some time. But with the hospital closure, and other things I've seen online, I'm having a hard time deciding! Similar FA/tuition although NYC COL is obviously much higher than Syracuse/CNY. SUNY Upstate Pros Year 2 of a new curriculum that appears to have some really great... Difference between PTE and CTE Deadline
Couple things: I thought PTE was completely optional. If that's true, what's up with the PTE deadline? Correct me if I'm wrong but the PTE deadline has no barring on how many schools we need to narrow down to. And to tag along with #2, is there ever a point that we need to narrow down to anything more than 1 school? As in, if there's any requirement to narrow down offers, it'd be to narrow it down to 1 offer? The CTE deadline is the only deadline that's relevant for narrowing... I want some opinions on what I should do
I am an Asian 26M who graduated from UCI in 2020 with a degree in neurobiology. I was very unmotivated during that time and did not apply myself as much as I should have so I ended up with a very poor uGPA and sGPA. Since then, I became an EMT during COVID and worked full time in both IFT and 911. After that, I returned to community college and began taking prereqs for nursing school while working as a wound tech. I was eventually accepted into the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing's Direct... HPSP For Competitive Specialities
Just to give some background, I'm currently a third year pre-med applying this cycle. I made a spreadsheet of potential expenses and tuition and compounding interest and now I'm terrified. Not doing this purely for the money, but more for the ease of mind that I can start maxing my 401k when residency starts rather than being 401k in debt (I'm sorry) and being able to have a family earlier and stuff without taking more loans. My parents and grandparents might be able to contribute to my med... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Would you attend a postbacc with this success rate?
I recently reached out to the head of a pre-health program at a CUNY school with a very new postbacc program to ask about the success rate. He said that the program is too new to provide the stats for the postbacc, but for all prehealth students with undergraduate GPAs of 3.0+ and MCAT scores of 498+, 192 students apply in the past five years, 120 of whom got into US medical schools, for a success rate of 62%. I know this doesn't measure up to the likes of programs like Bryn Mawr with 98%... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
