Interesting clawback from Humana
Got a "refund request" from our good friends at Humana today. Clawing back two 99204s and one 99214 because "diagnosis code(s) are inappropriate". The only code all three charts have in common is G894 chronic pain syndrome. None of them use it as a primary or even secondary diagnosis, but as a 3rd or 5th diagnosis. Just a heads up don't use that code at all for Humana pts. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Creighton Omaha vs Western Michigan
I have been blessed to be accepted to both of these great schools, which makes the decision difficult. With the April 31st deadline of only holding 1 A coming soon, I need to choose between these two soon. I appreciate any guidance/advice/opinions! Similarities OOS for both: Both are 9+ hours car trip from home. Base Tuition is ~70k for both. No scholarship received. Both locations are very cold… not ideal. I do like outdoor activities, and a medium sized city is nice... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

U of Kansas Med vs MCW-Milwaukee
To give some background: I live in Chicago, but my family is from Wisconsin, and my sister and mom work in Milwaukee. My significant other is from a Kansas City suburb and my college best friend is an M1 at KU Med. I am very fortunate that CoA is not a major factor in my decision making. I am interested in Ophthalmology, General Surgery, or Internal Medicine, and I would love to move out to the West Coast for residency to follow family. **University of Kansas School of Medicine** PROS •... Taking classes at another university?
I'm currently a junior at a UC campus and I saw some interesting classes offered at another UC. (University of California) Would it look bad to take a bunch of classes at the other UC while completing my reqs at my current UC? I would be taking some fun classes like cooking with science at our sister university and I would be taking classes for my major at my current UC. I think they would be fun, easy classes to do and they are much cheaper than what I would be paying to take them at my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Will EMT Litigation ruin my Med School Chances?
Hey everyone! I need some advice. I work as an EMT. I recently got into an accident while driving the ambulance with a patient inside to the hospital. The patient was stable. It was the night shift and I was running ALS OPS so I had been driving most of the night. I fell asleep behind the wheel. No one got hurt thankfully, but the vehicle was pretty badly damaged. There's a pretty good chance that the EMS company will get sued and obviously, I'd be implicated. I don't have to mention in... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

2024-2025 AMCAS Certification Update - Use of AI
An eagle-eyed pre-health advisor noticed that there was an update to the AMCAS certification statement in regards to AI: I certify that all my writing, including personal comments, essays for MD-PhD applicants, and descriptions of work/activities, is my own. Although I may utilize mentors, peers, advisors, and/or AI tools for brainstorming, proofreading, or editing, my final submission is a true reflection of my own work and represents my experiences. I acknowledge that... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WL Dilemma
I'm on the WL for my top school right now, but as a non-trad with a family, rushing around to move 14+ hours away a week or two before classes start is really not fair to put them through. We essentially have to buy a house with our family circumstances so it would also be kind of nuts to put that mostly on my husband to handle while I'm trying to get ready for med school. I'm also starting a new work opportunity with a 1 year contract attached in July, assuming I don't hear back by then. I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

School List (517/3.96)
Hi! I'm in my gap year now applying for this upcoming cycle, and I just want some advice in terms of what schools to apply to. I don't know if I should tailor my list toward more research-oriented or service-oriented schools. All hours included are at the time when primaries are going to be submitted. cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS: cGPA: 3.96, sGPA: 3.97 MCAT score(s) and breakdown. Include all (non-voided) attempts: 512 (130/123/129/130) on 8/2022 -> 517... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

UCSD vs Case
Western Hi everyone! I’ve been torn for a while, but to be honest, I think I’m leaning towards UCSD. Attended second look for both schools. I am from Akron (45 min from Case) but attend undergrad in NC (8 hr drive from home) and am honestly only home ~3 times a year for breaks, but do a good job staying in touch with my mom. I’ve spent summers in NC and Boston and studied abroad in London, so living independently/moving/establishing and managing on my own isn’t a huge concern... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

BPD and ADHD comorbidity
There is a subset of BPD patients that I see that checks all the boxes for ADHD criteria. Now, I know these are treacherous waters, so I always try to check and double-check these cases: can the impulsivity be associated with emotional triggers and chronic feelings of emptiness, or it has a strong motor and learning component as well? Did these symptoms began before 12y.o? Do other family members give similar informations as well? Do the patients report significant sympotms from standarized...
