Advice for my gap year?
Hi everyone! Grateful for any advice… I’m currently interviewing for a few jobs that I could hopefully get some clinical experience as well as a strong letter of recommendation. This is alongside other ways that I’m strengthening my application during my gap year. My question is this: which job should I accept / choose? Option 1 - Front and back office MA position for MD, mainly a front desk position, taking calls, scheduling appts, checking out pts, putting in prescriptions and lab... Leaving the hospital for ASC?
Anybody work in a hospital for like 10 years and then thought “F weekends and call” to go to ASCs. You wish that you stayed? Trouble going back since haven’t done certain cases in years like OB? Credentialing problems? Bad stuff about ASCs? I’m thinking I may ditch the hospital but is that short sighted when I have another 20 years to go? I’m also in major metro area. Why is rad onc not more competitive?
Couple years ago I was convinced that it’s because of job market concern but now i’m starting to think that the lack of exposure and medical students knowledge about the field might be the bigger reason for that. I’m not saying the job market concerns aren’t real but here’s some of the offers right now: -SOMC Portsmouth OH $668k + $90k SB -Arnot health Elmira NY $600k -Trinity Waterloo IA $550k + $75k SB -Jefferson Healthcare port townstead WA $600-800k -EOCC Richmond VA $650-750k -St... Withdrawal from Orgo I
Planning to withdraw from Orgo I. I worked really hard but still scored poorly on the exams (48% on the first one and 58% on the second one). Planning to retake the class next year. Question for those who withdrew from Orgo I before. Were you able to get better grades taking this class for the second time? I've been in class for 2/3 of the semester (meaning I was exposed to a good amount of material). Are people usually more successful taking the class for the second time? TIA! Hospital Subsidies For DR
Has anyone heard of hospitals subsidizing DR groups for coverage or offering pay per click at a premium/higher than standard reimbursement rate for reading their studies? Everyone is talking about how great the job market is, but with reimbursement continuously falling and radiology profit being directly tied to how much/what is read im worried that were heading towards a cliff regarding pay. You'd hope that with demand for radiologists far exceeding the supply, something would eventually... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Thoughts on LCSW Supervision for Counselor Licensure
Some years ago the Board of Counseling in my state decided to stop allowing hours supervised by LCSWs, Psychologists, or other professions to count towards becoming licensed as a Professional Counselor. Currently there is a push to change that, though a public request to the Board to change this policy. The public comment for that request can be found here: Virginia Regulatory Town Hall List Comments I know we have a lot of LSCWs and LPCs here, so I thought it would be interesting to... IM residency chances with red flags?
Current USMD M3 interested in IM My situation is a little bit special because I struggled academically throughout medical school. I got Bs and Cs in preclinicals, failed one preclinical course, and had to go on a LoA and repeat third year. I am currently finishing up third year after LoA and my grades are ok so far (one honor and 3 passes). My shelf exam scores have been 70s and one 80 something score. Before medical school, I did a lot of research (7 co authored pubs) and a variety of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

NCSU vs UPenn
Hello! I was very fortunate to be accepted to 9 schools this year, but I have managed to narrow it down to NCSU and UPenn. I’m primarily interested in equine medicine and am planning on pursuing an equine surgery internship/residency after vet school (though I’m also considering internal med and therio). I was wondering if anyone had any insight into these programs? Thank you so much in advance! (Source: Student Doctor Network)
