Does anyone regret taking a gap year? / Have any advice to make me not regret one?
So I was completely ready to apply last cycle. Good PS, high GPA, great ECs, and doing well on MCAT practice exams. My MCAT was about a month away, then my buddy asked me if I wanted to spend the summer traveling Europe instead. (This was awesome and I don't regret it at all). But because of my decision I had to cancel my exam. At first I was excited to take a gap year but now I don't know. It sucks too see some of my classmates getting into awesome schools and I'm getting a little jealous.... Does anyone regret taking a gap year? / Have any advice to make me not regret one? What's the patient population like in Vascular Surgery?
Just wondering what the patient population is like in regards to the etiology of their disease. Are they mostly caused by lifestyle decisions? i.e. smoking, obesity, etc? What percentage of patients have vascular problems without any poor lifestyle habits? How does this patient population compare with interventional cardiology in this regard? Also, how many vascular surgery patients are "emergent" compared to other surgical specialties? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Waitlists and LOIs
I went on an interview at my undergrad's med school in the end of January (the school only interviews through February). Although obviously not a perfect source, based on looking at previous years' SDN threads, I knew that this interview would most likely either result in a waitlist or rejection given the time in the cycle. I was surprised to even receive the interview due to an MCAT below the school's median (although my GPA is above it). I do feel that I match their mission pretty well and... Does intern year really mean anything
I'm trying to set up my match list for TY years and basically have it between MSKCC - which is a somewhat more involved, labor-intensive and rigorous TY - vs. a very relaxed community hospital TY in my home state. I'd love to have people weigh in on what they think the TY year means in regards to Rad Onc- if anything - and, in that vein, if there's anything that I stand to gain by going the more punishing route and spending the year in NYC. Are there are research opportunities or connections... Does intern year really mean anything (Source: Student Doctor Network)
