Respiratory Aspects of Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia
This review article explores the respiratory aspects of primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), a rare, heterogenous, genetic disorder characterized by impaired motile ciliary function. It discusses the clinical diagnosis and management strategies for PCD-related respiratory disease, including chronic sinusitis, otitis media with effusion, recurrent pneumonia, and bronchiectasis. The review emphasizes the need for a multidisciplinary approach to optimize care and clinical trials to improve outcomes in individuals with PCD, highlighting the importance of accurate diagnosis. Acanthamoeba Infection and Nasal Rinsing, United States, 1994-2022
We describe 10 patients with nonkeratitis Acanthamoeba infection who reported performing nasal rinsing before becoming ill. All were immunocompromised, 7 had chronic sinusitis, and many used tap water for nasal rinsing. Immunocompromised persons should be educated about safe nasal rinsing to prevent free-living ameba infections.PMID:38526242 | DOI:10.3201/eid3004.231076 (Source: Emerging Infectious Diseases)

Eight months of integrated yoga, hydrotherapy and acupuncture on serum IgE levels and symptoms severity of a patient with chronic allergic rhinosinusitis: A case report
A 27-year-old man with Allergic rhino sinusitis presented to our hospital in July 2020 with complaints of continuous sneezing, coughing while rising from bed for half an hour, and the same complaints repeated in the afternoon for half an hour, as well as a continuous dry cough for half an hour in the evening. He also had complaints of itching and skin rashes, particularly in his limbs. He underwent yoga (45 minutes, 5 –6 days a week) including Jalaneti (a yogic cleansing technique, i.e. nasal irrigation with warm salt water for twice a week), hydrotherapy (enema using neem leaves paste mixed with water and steam bath on ...

Long-term benefits of EPs ® 7630 in patients with acute sinusitis: a real-world cohort study
Conclusion: EPs® 7630 prescription is associated with long-term benefits in AS patients. EPs® 7630 can help to reduce inappropriate antibiotic use and might reduce the risk of chronic sinusitis or nasal polyps. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 1933: Deep Learning-Based Multi-Class Segmentation of the Paranasal Sinuses of Sinusitis Patients Based on Computed Tomographic Images
This study introduces a multiclass Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) segmentation model by comparing four 3D U-Net variations—normal, residual, dense, and residual-dense. Data normalization and training were conducted on a 40-patient test set (20 normal, 20 abnormal) using 5-fold cross-validation. The normal 3D U-Net demonstrated superior performance with an F1 score of 84.29% on the normal test set and 79.32% on the abnormal set, exhibiting higher true positive rates for the sphenoid and maxillary sinus in both sets. Despite effective segmentation in clear sinuses, limitations were observed in mucosal infla...

Sinonasal Tumors Masquerading as Invasive Fungal Sinusitis (IFS)
CONCLUSIONS: We aim to emphasize the importance of obtaining viable tissue as pathology specimens as the presence of necrosis with fungal elements may limit the diagnosis and ultimately delay the care of an underlying sinonasal carcinoma.PMID:38491860 | DOI:10.1177/00034894241238864 (Source: The Annals of Otology, Rhinology, and Laryngology)

Advances in co-pathogenesis of the united airway diseases
According to the concept of “united airway diseases”, the airway is a single organ in which upper and lower airway diseases are commonly comorbid. A range of inflammatory factors has been found to play an important role in the chain reaction of upper and lower airway diseases. However, the amount of research on this concep t remains limited. The underlying mechanism of the relationship between typical diseases of the united airway, such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, and chronic sinusitis, also needs to be further explored.
