NPs vs. MD's.
Not a "troll" here, just have plenty of years experience as an NP, from a "real university", not some on-line thing, and have some thoughts/comments, for you to consider: 1. There is no doubt that MD students have much deeper & broader basic science training than any NP I have every known. 2. Big question.... do you really need all that biochem, histology, anatomy to treat sinusitis or DMII? 3. Most NPs, after several years "on the job" training, are quite compentent to handle otitis... Third year, just diagnosed with cystic fibrosis
I'm a third year student, off cycle, done mediocre throughout medical school but have passed everything. Part of why I haven't done so hot is because I've been progressively more ill throughout. In the middle of third year I was told I needed surgery for what they thought was just chronic sinusitis. So I took some time off and felt maybe marginally better but really not that much better. As I did more research and looked at my whole clinical picture the pieces of the puzzle started to... Third year, just diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Possible CF (input please)
Hello all. I am a 20 year old male, and was recently tested via sweat test for CF. I received the call five days ago that I did not have CF due to the results, but I am not fully confident (as online research has led me to discover that in some, albeit very few, cases, the sweat test may produce normal results despite the patient having CF). Here's why I am not fully confident: 1) I was diagnosed with asthma at a young age--however, this asthma is so mild that it has a negligible impact on my life as of now. I need to take two puffs of my albuterol inhaler MAYBE once a week, if not less than that. I do not usually need i...

Hi All. Throwing this out there to see if anyone can help. Still no CF diagnoise.
Hi Everyone. Well, I had a ambry Pancreatitis Genetic panel done. Any one else, with pancritis problems, Cf etc, which know of theses mutations. G576A, (likely pathogenic) And R668C. (Variant of unknown Significance) Got as far as a CRMS Diagnose. Told neither of these are CF causing. I don't get this as I am still in limbo, The two high sweat test> 84, and 90. To make this short as I always write a book here, I do have good FVC. Low DLCO. (which I think is heart related) Chronic Asthma, Chronic Sinusitis, Allergies, Chronic Bronchitis, Failure to thrive, malnusorption disorder (most all my life) Chronic Pancri...

Sinus Surgery in 4 Year Old- Looking for Information
Hi everyone! My son is 4 years old (DDF508) and it looks like sinus surgery might be happenning in the next few months. From Sept-December he was on sick plan almost non stop (3 weeks to get rid of the illness, 1 week off, repeat)-- no huge illnesses but a very insistent cough that kept coming back. He also had sinusitis that whole time as well. He's been healthy since the end of December after a round of bactrim, luckily, but they had him do a CT scan to get a better idea of why he had a hard time staying healthy. Not surprisingly the CT scan showed his sinuses completely blocked up with mucus. They said he's too you...

False negative sputum culture?
How often are sputum cultures false negative? My son is currently recovering from a month of sickness including sinusitis that then settled into his chest. His sputum culture was taken 3 days after he finished 10 days of amox and had just started 3 days of augmentin. His sputum was thick yellow good sample and came back normal. I suppose he could have viral pneumonia but I almost wish it was something so we could do something besides empiric therapy. He is being treated with oral antibiotic for one month now and getting better along with albuterol/pulmicort. Any insights? (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Newly Diagnosed Forum)

CF Limbo-Update on immunodeficiency
My 11 year old son has been in limbo for 5 years now. I've posted here before but I have new information. Stomach pain started at age 7. Chronic sinusitis and bronchitis. Cultured stap and h flu so far. PI diagnosed at age 8 via pancreatic stim test. Enzymes treated for 8 months with improvement until age 8 when acute event of partial SBO and acute pancreatitis landing him in hospital for one month. He is treated at Boston Children's hospital via the CF center. Conflicting opinions so enzymes were removed. Currently he is 9th percentile for height with decent BMI. DNA sequencing done 5 years ago finding 2 copies of M47...

F508 and I148T/possible CF symptoms?
Hi, I'm new to this forum. Does anyone have this combination? My DS (8) has these 2 mutations, which we knew about since birth when he tested positive in his newborn screening but negative in his sweat test (I carry the F508 and my husband carries I148T). We were told that he may develop atypical CF and be infertile but he has never had a follow-up appointment as the reports were buried in his pediatrician's file. Fast forward 8 years...our DS has been to many specialists (neurologists, allergists, endocronologist, psychiatrists) for issues ranging from eyes rolling in the back of his head to anger management & anxiet...
