WAMC/Reapplicant
Hi, I am posting this because I am most likely going to have to re-apply and feel like I should start preparing. Here is my list and new updates. I am also going to expand my list and apply to DO schools but don't know much about them so would love advice on that and also any areas I should work on to strengthen my application and better my chances! cGPA-3.78 and sGPA-3.82 MCAT score and breakdown: August 2022 513 (128/126/131/128)-CASPER to be taken this cycle and Preview 8... What causes an applicant to be waitlisted at many schools?
Hi all. I first want to say that I am very grateful for the acceptances I do have. I know that no matter what, I am fortunate enough to be a physician. However, it is hard not to think about what I have done wrong that has led to many more waitlists than acceptances. So far, I have heard back from ten schools post-interview, with the result being three acceptances, seven waitlists, and no rejections. I can't help but think this is a reflection of me. Is it just the luck of the entire... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

The SDN Effect?
So the data is out. Applicant pool size seemed to rebound this year with 2 new schools opening. However the avg applicant stats are down a little. Matriculant data paints a whole other picture... only 403 enrolled this year! Guess people are thinking twice about signing that tuition agreement form. https://aacpm.org/wp-content/uploads/Historical-TRENDS-of-apps-2014-2023-08-2023-for-health-professions-update-1.pdf ... MCAT Registration Question
Hi! I applied for an early assurance program (Flexmed), and one of the requirements if accepted (I hear back late June) is to not sit for an MCAT. Registration for August MCATs (what I would ideally take if I am not accepted) opens tomorrow, and I am aware it is competitive to get a timing close to my home city if registered too late. Are schools like Sinai able to see if I have registered for the MCAT? I obviously will cancel my registration if accepted, I just want to make sure I have a... What types of research do T20 schools (UChicago or Northwestern) like?
I am currently applying to the NIH's postbac program, and because my undergrad research experience is very dry lab, health disparities oriented, I haven't had much luck. I'm looking more towards applying to health disparities institution, so very epidemiological-based research, but I was wondering if doing this through this program would still give me a shot at entry to UChicago or Northwestern. Or do they like basic science research? How can I get into basic science research without any... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Retaking the MCAT and Applying to USMD as a ORM Canadian
Hi all, Just wanted to get some input into my plan and had a couple questions. For some background information, my GPA is a 4.0 (both cGPA and sGPA), and my MCAT is a 520 (130/126/132/132). Unfortunately, my MCAT score prevents me from applying to many Canadian schools, and as you all know Canadian schools rarely look at MCAT holistically (either cutoffs or only look at CARS, which puts my MCAT score in the 72nd percentile). Thus, I am planning on retaking late August. As for my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Graduated in 2019- experienced burnout and only now fully gained my perspective back
Hello Everyone, Here is my story: I graduated from UCLA in 2019 with a bachelor's in Biology (3.83 GPA and a 3.76 BCPM GPA). I was initially scheduled to take my MCAT in March of 2020; however, due to the onset of the COVID pandemic and the ensuing lockdown, my MCAT was canceled and kept getting canceled for the following months. However, I still wanted to apply to certain medical schools that were offering conditional interviews and acceptances for students without an MCAT score... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is my optimism reasonable?
Hey guys! I applied to 13 schools this cycle, got 4 interviews that resulted in 1 rejection (my IS, UF) and 3 waitlists (UMN, Kansas, and Auburn). My #1 choice has always been UMN and luckily, they are kind enough to tell us our waitlist rankings. I am currently #17 OOS. I looked back at the threads for UMN c/o 2027 and c/o 2026 and it seems like they frequently move far past that number once the national acceptance deadline hits. It looks like in 2027 they reached into the 40s and in 2026... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Wamc 3.85/522 urm
Hi Everyone! Trying to see where I stand as an applicant given my kinda-lopsided GPA/MCAT ratio. If someone would be willing to give me an idea of schools to I apply, that would be awesome! cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS: 3.85 cGPA, 3.80 sGPA MCAT score(s) and breakdown: 500 first attempt, 522 second attempt State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US): Arizona Ethnicity and/or race: black, URM Undergraduate institution or category: no name... Should you continue to update schools after being admitted?

4 months of clinical experience?
Hello everyone! I am gearing up to apply to both MD and DO schools this summer, really excited! I recently started a clinical job in October, and to be honest, it makes me miserable. I've enjoyed helping my patients and learning about the actual clinical aspect of it, but the work environment is just so nasty, and I had a bad altercation with someone today that was completely uncalled for. I want to quit this job and work somewhere else. I started the end of October, and I want to put my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

“Non science major” classes
Planning to apply DO in a couple years. Took Biology + Lab for non science majors 20+ years ago. Should I retake the science major version for admission purposes? Alternatively, can I just take an upper level Bio class to replace it? I know some schools screen for age of Biology courses. What would be the best course of action? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Feeling Discouraged-Seeking Advice
I recently graduated from college last year, with a major in neuroscience. I was premed, and decided to take the veterinarian route this year. So I have lots of hours to catch up on. Issue: I really messed up my senior year of college. Depression hit me so hard, and I failed multiple classes. I did well on my prerequisites, but I know vet schools mainly focus on the last 45 credits, which senior year dragged me down. Other than that, I got As in all upper level neuro classes, but failed... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
