Post Bacc Committee Letter Summary or Separate LOR?
I am in a Post-Bacc program and we are required to submit a minimum of 3 LOR and 1 additional LOR from a MD or DO we have shadowed. I graduated undergrad in 2020 and worked as a Medical Lab Tech. Medical Lab Scientist, CNA and Caregiver during this timespan. What I am wondering is that the Post-Bacc program now wants me to add up to 5 LOR total, 1 being the MD or DO I shadowed and the committee will summarize the letters with a letterhead? Some of the medical schools I have emailed have told... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How long (realistically) can you wait to apply for a fellowship?
Hi all! I am interested in applying for OB/GYN and I am also interested in applying for a maternal-fetal medicine fellowship once I complete residency. When looking at the different scholarships to pay for schools, I am really interested in doing a service scholarship and per the terms of the scholarship, if I were to specialize in MFM, I would not be eligible for the scholarship. In an effort to have the best of both worlds, are we able to wait a few years to apply for a fellowship or is it... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Course Repeats > 2x
How to do Canadian Med Schools treat more than 2x repeats of a course? I have one I repeated 4x and failed, not due to lack of of ability but more like extenuating circumstances due to which I couldn't take the exam and those excuses not being considered/accepted. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

should I take the mcat a 4th time? looking for advice
My MCAT history: Sept 2022: 500 (125/125/125/125) May 2023: 508 (125/125/130/128) Mar 2024: 507 (129/125/125/128) cGPA is 3.38, sGPA is 3.16. No upward trend, my GPA fluctuated a lot over the last 2 years. Ive gotten advice that I should apply DO, which I plan to do. But I would also like to apply to MD schools, and I feel very strongly that this recent 507 score was a fluke. Had my bio/biochem score stayed the same, I would have gotten a 512. Ive considered that my bio/biochem score... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

SAT restarted in Ivy League schools, is MCAT becoming more important? Could Step1 score come back?
Harvard announces return to required testing — Harvard Gazette Leading researchers cite strong evidence that testing expands opportunity. news.harvard.edu Harvard is the latest Ivy to require SAT for undergraduate admissions, after data showed SAT scores correlate well with student performance in college. Could MCAT, which has also a demonstrated correlation to board exams, regain some of its lusters? Could STEP 1 again become scored rather than P/F? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC for DO (3.9 cGPA, 3.86 BCPM, 500 MCAT)
Hi all! I’ve been going back and forth on whether I should apply this upcoming cycle to DO schools. My MCAT is a 500 with unbalanced subsections (123 CP, 127 CARS, 123 BB, 127 PS). I’m nervous to retake for risk of doing worse or similar. My cGPA is a 3.91 and BCPM GPA is 3.86. I’m a CA resident and would love to stay here. I have 1 MD letter, 4 professor letters, and 1 volunteer manager letter. I have 60+ hrs shadowing, 170 hrs medical scribing, 1500+ hrs clinical volunteering, different... Do schools screen for both cGPA and sGPA or just one?
I ended undergrad with a 2.73 sGPA and i’m currently at the end of a 30+ credit postbac and I have brought it up to a 2.93 sGPA. My cGPA is a 3.05. My postbac gpa alone is 3.73 (all science classes). I am wondering if schools will screen only for cGPA or for sGPA as well for the schools that say they screen on MSAR? Other (maybe) relevant information: I am an AA female. I had to work 2-3 jobs to support myself and send money to my family when my parent lost their job to covid during... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Good MCAT, bad CARS, below 10th percentile
I have a 3.81 GPA, MCAT is 516 with a breakdown of (132/125/129/130). Initially I was very happy with the score, but I had such awful anxiety that night that I never slept. As a result, my cars score was abysmal. Wasn't far off from my practice exams either, it was always a section I struggled with. I didn't think it'd matter for US medical schools since it's still a very respectable score, however according to this year's MSAR, the top schools I'm looking to apply to, the cars score is 1...
