Language-Specific Dual-Task Effects After Stroke: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: Language-specific dual-task costs were identified in single word studies, especially those that focused on aphasia as well as half of the nonaphasia studies. Unlike single word studies, nearly all studies of discourse showed dual-task decrements on at least some variables.SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL: https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.23605311.PMID:37418751 | DOI:10.1044/2023_JSLHR-23-00006

"Fou Rire Prodromique" as the Presentation of a Left Frontal Ischemic Stroke (P02.040)
CONCLUSIONS: Frontal lobe involvement affecting the Broca's area, as we described in our case, has only been described once. We conclude that the patient's laughter attack was the initial manifestation of the stroke suggesting that an acute infarct of Broca's area is capable of producing this unusual clinical presentation.Disclosure: Dr. Rosales has nothing to disclose. Clinical evaluation of the relationship of posture, breathing and swallowing in chronic-state post-stroke patients: case report

Speech therapy effectiveness in a case of expressive aphasia resulting from stroke

Treatment of dysphasia with rTMS and language therapy after childhood stroke: Multimodal imaging of plastic change.
Abstract Expressive dysphasia accompanies left inferior frontal gyrus (IFG/Broca) injury. Recovery may relate to interhemispheric balance with homologous, contralesional IFG but is unexplored in children. We evaluated effects of inhibitory rTMS to contralesional IFG combined with intensive speech therapy (SLT). A 15year-old, right-handed male incurred a left middle cerebral artery stroke. After 30months, severe non-fluent dysphasia impacted quality of life. Language networks, neuronal metabolism and white matter pathways were explored using MRI. Language function was measured longitudinally. An intensive SLT progr...

The Effect of Selective Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation with Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy and Intensive Speech Therapy on Individuals with Post-Stroke Aphasia
Conclusions: The administration of fNIRS-guided selective rTMS therapy and iST to post-stroke patients with aphasia induced a significant improvement in language function, with both groups demonstrating a similar degree of improvement.Eur Neurol 2017;77:186-194

Contemporary Approaches to the Management of Post-stroke Apraxia of Speech.
This article focuses on these recent advances. Studies investigating acoustic evaluation of AOS will be reviewed, as well as those that have considered the extent that neuroimaging can guide clinical decision making. Developments in the treatment of AOS will also be discussed. Although more research is needed regarding the use of these methods in everyday clinical practice, the studies reviewed here show promise as emerging tools for the management of AOS. Dysarthria following Stroke.
Abstract Dysarthria is a common consequence of stroke and can have a detrimental influence on communication and quality of life. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) play an important role in the evaluation and rehabilitation of stroke survivors who present with dysarthria. An understanding of the physiologic reason behind the altered speech characteristics, such as weakness or incoordination, can facilitate differential diagnosis, guide evaluation strategies, and influence treatment approaches. An initial comprehensive speech evaluation is comprised of examination of the speech mechanism, screening of speech subsy...

An Interprofessional Communication Training Program to Improve Nurses' Ability to Communicate With Stroke Patients With Communication Disorders.
CONCLUSION: Nurses' attitudes toward and knowledge about communication strategies improved, which enhances their ability to care for stroke patients with communication disorders. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Interdisciplinary workshops and speech language pathologist support appear beneficial to nurses working with patients with communication disorders. Help-seeking and people with aphasia who have mood problems after stroke: perspectives of speech-language pathologists.
CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS: SLPs report both universal barriers to help-seeking and those specific to their clients with aphasia and attempts to overcome these; however, there appears to be a dearth of accessible mental health services for people with aphasia known to SLPs, including psychological/counselling professionals who are skilled in communicating with people with aphasia. Health professionals working within and across post-stroke and mental health services should recognize that people with post-stroke aphasia are susceptible to a decline in mental health, are amenable to formal (and tailored) psychological sup...

Technical Features, Feasibility, and Acceptability of Augmented Telerehabilitation in Post-stroke Aphasia —Experiences From a Randomized Controlled Trial
Conclusions: Synchronous telerehabilitation for post-stroke aphasia is feasible and acceptable and shows tolerable technical fault rates with high satisfaction among patients and pathologists. Within a low rate of faults, satisfaction was not negatively influenced by fault frequency. Access to clinical and technical expertise is needed when developing telerehabilitation services. Telerehabilitation may be a viable service delivery model for aphasia rehabilitation.Trial Registration:ClinicalTrials.gov, ID: NCT02768922.

Effect of Low-Frequency rTMS and Intensive Speech Therapy Treatment on Patients With Nonfluent Aphasia After Stroke
Conclusions: Low-frequency rTMS combined with conventional ST treatment can effectively improve the language function of patients with nonfluent aphasia after stroke. Two times a day low-frequency rTMS therapy combined with conventional ST treatment can improve the language function of patients with nonfluent aphasia after stroke more effectively and it also promote the expression of BDNF more effectively, thereby improving nerve repair and protecting brain tissue.

Relationship between tongue pressure and dysphagia diet in patients with acute stroke
by Masahiro Nakamori, Kenichi Ishikawa, Eiji Imamura, Haruna Yamamoto, Keiko Kimura, Tomoko Ayukawa, Tatsuya Mizoue, Shinichi Wakabayashi A dysphagia diet is important for patients with stroke to help manage their nutritional state and prevent aspiration pneumonia. Tongue pressure measurement is a simple, non-invasive, and objective method for diagnosing dysphagia. We hypothesized that tongue pressure may be useful in making a choic e of diet for patients with acute stroke. Using balloon-type equipment, tongue pressure was measured in 80 patients with acute stroke. On admission, a multidisciplinary swallowing team includi...
