Severe paraneoplastic hypoglycemia secondary to a gastrointestinal stromal tumour masquerading as a stroke.
We report the case of a 70-year-old previously healthy female who presented acutely to the Accident and Emergency department with left-sided vasomotor symptoms including reduced muscle tone, weakness upon walking and slurred speech. Physical examination confirmed hemiparesis with VIIth nerve palsy and profound hepatomegaly. A random glucose was low at 1.7 mmol/l, which upon correction resolved her symptoms. In hindsight, the patient recalled having had similar episodes periodically over the past 3 months to which she did not give much attention. While hospitalized, she continued having episodes of symptomatic hypoglycaem...

H‐Type hypertension, stroke and diabetes in China: Opportunities for primary prevention / H

Association of Glucagon ‐like Peptide‐1 Receptor Agonist (GLP‐1 RA) Use and Rates of Acute Myocardial Infarction, Stroke, and Overall Mortality in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in a Large Integrated Health System
ConclusionsGLP‐1 RA exposure was found to be associated with a reduction in the risk of cardiovascular events observed and overall mortality among patients with T2D with and without established CVD, after adjusting for potential confounders.

The potential long-term neurological improvement of early hyperbaric oxygen therapy on hemorrhagic stroke in the diabetics
Compared with ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a kind of acute cerebral disorder with relatively worse neurobehavioral deterioration. The whole pathological progress of ICH is hasty and the onset of signs or symptoms commonly occurs within tens of minutes. It is believed that the onset of ICH is induced by potential complications of hypertension or diabetes [1]. Since the worldwide incidences of cardiovascular diseases (especially hypertension and diabetes) increase rapidly in recent years, the potential risk of ICH is also a rigorous challenge in these days [2].

Determining the joint effect of obesity and diabetes on functional disability at 3-months and on all-cause mortality at 1-year following an ischemic stroke
Obesity and diabetes mellitus, or diabetes, are independently associated with post-ischemic stroke outcomes (e.g., functional disability and all-cause mortality). Although obesity and diabetes are also associated...

Ideal cardiovascular health, glycaemic status and incident type 2 diabetes mellitus: the REasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) study
Conclusions/interpretationA higher number of ideal CVH components was associated with a dose-dependent lower risk of diabetes for participants with normal fasting glucose but not IFG. Tailored efforts that take into account observed differences by race and glycaemic level are needed for the primordial prevention of diabetes.

Can MiR-503 be used as a marker in diabetic patients with ischemic stroke?
Some microRNAs are involved in diabetes pathology and some are known to have role in stroke. MiR-503 causes endothelial dysfunction in diabetic patients, predisposing to ischemia. There has been no study evalu...
